“Would NOT call it a "dump" but construction ruined our stay”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 May 2007

My husband and I stayed here from 4/28-5/5 and the first three days were great. It started out quiet and away from the Golden Zone. We stayed on the top floor overlooking the ocean and pool. We thought the rooms(we had a 2 bedroom adjoining suite) was very clean. The kitchen was a outdated, but the floors, the bathrooms were all very clean. Houskeeping was very pleasant. We had left money out and they never even bothered it, or took anything.
The Front desk was NOT very helpful when it came to anything. Making outgoing calls is a disaster. The food in the restaurant was NOT good. Definitely eat somewhere else. But, as I was saying.. the first 3 days of our stay was pleasant enough...then came the construction workers. They made a huge mess of both our balconies. My friend was sitting reading on hers, and she started getting hit by dust and small debris. Her bathing suit left out was covered with debris. It sucked. They started at about 6:30 am and didnt quit until about the same time at night. The pool side was gross from all of the building particles and you could not walk bare-foot on your balcony. It was too bad that our vacation was ruined by this. The noise of the jackhammer was so unbareable that we got up and left the resort early ever day. If it wasnt for this.. we would have definitely 100% reccommended this resort. But, unfortunately, I would say- they need someone who is bilingual there all of the time. They also need to do something about the construction... discounts, amenities...etc,. The last person said the amenities were terrible. There werent any! You couldnt even walk around the pool. Although, the pool was fine and we NEVER smelled sewage and NEVER felt unsafe here, also, we NEVER saw any bugs.

  • Liked — We thought the rooms were clean and bright!
  • Disliked — The construction next door ruined the entire stay.

“Stay Away”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 May 2007

We recently returned from Mazatlan and have stayed at this hotel many times - always quite enjoyable.

This time we stayed nearby as we purched a condo. However, our frinds were staying at Playa Maria. Every time we went to visit them we were harrassed not only to purchase a time share but for tresspassing! The pool bartender would snear at my wife and I and than call security - our friends are 70 years old and we are in our forties, not exactly young and crazy. Apparently you aren't supposed to visit your friends their!

Avoid this dump!

“Construction overhead, sewage, cock roaches & scary staff”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 April 2007

This place is the definition of a Mexican dump - it appears to have started out with good intention but is now clearly struggling to keep the doors open.

We booked a two bedroom through HSI and arrived to find our room musty, with a strong odour of sewage and dead cock roaches in the halls. There are condo's right next door under construction with Mexican workers buzzing around 24-7. The pool was not usable as it was filthy and dangerous from overhead construction.

There is no amenitites available - i.e. bottled water, or snacks and the resteraunt was horrible to say the least. The staff were very unfriendly, or shall I say scary and we barricaded our doors at night before going to sleep.

Our only saving grace was the El Cid hotel across the marina where we spent our days and evenings.

Do yourself a favour and skip this place, vacation is too precious to waste it here.

“dump”

I have owned this property since it was built. It has alway been great till this year. The new owner has let this place go down hill. We checked in, We were told when we had a ocean view, we were next to the street . No microwave in the room and they could not find one. No TV remote control. We did not have water 3 different times. They lost their cable TV. they had not paid for it.The tile on the pool is falling off. The restaurant is closing at 3:30 and the bar is not stocked. One day they ran out of beer and no one had money to buy more. This place went from one of the best small resorts to the worst. They say they are trying to correct their problems, I hope the new owner will.

“Very, very, quite hotel - relaxing”

We own a timeshare at this hotel and this was our first chance to use it. We stayed for 2 weeks. The pool was fantastic, very quiet hotel. Be wary of your credit card, our card was swiped and unathourized expenses placed on it.
