“Wouldn't sleep there even one night”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 June 2008

We checked into this place and checked out 2 hours later. It was very dirty and the security was nil in out suite. Broken slatted windows, mould was rampant throughout and the air conditioners were so full of mould and rust we were aftraid to turn them on. Our travel agent had no idea of the condition of this place but we took pictures of the unit and sent them to them. I am sure they will never book another client here. No place to eat way out here and no stores,,,felt like we were in the middle of no where. Would never recommend to anyone.

“Don't believe the positive reviews, this place stinks”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 May 2008

Hotel Motto - We spared every expense.

Okay, the cleaning staff are great, but they have a tough hurdle to overcome. We were welcomed to the hotel by unfriendly staff who obvioulsy only wanted to work at one of the higher classed resorts. No good check-in system; just a bunch of keys kept in an unlocked cabinet in the office - protected only by a locked glass door. Yeah, really safe.

We would have had a dip in the pool, but it was green. Not painted green, but filled with disgusting bacteria.

The rooms are falling apart. We never saw a cockroach, but we did have a dead bat in the room.

There is a phone to call the front desk, but you can't call out into the town.

The cable reception is horrible. You can get FOX news and a CBS affialiate from LA.

Seriously, what more do you need? The place is falling apart. It is one of the three lowest rated resorts in Mazatlan. Not worth it. Stay somewhere better, the cost will be worth it.

  • Liked — The restaraunt at the Green Resort (la fonda) about 1/4 mile north of Marina Del Rey
  • Disliked — The entire place was horrible. No megusta!

“stay at your own risk!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 March 2008

Stay at your own risk! The phone in the 'apartment' we rented only called the front desk. There is no room internet. When the housekeeper takes the dirty towels, you don't get clean towels until those same towels are washed and dried. There was a 6-7 inch lizard in our bathroom that welcomed me one morning just after I woke up!
The bed is as hard as a rock and it feels like the pillow is stuffed with balls of yarn. There is only one phone that allows someone to call your room and that phone is always busy because the receptionist is constantly on personal phone calls. At times, the receptionist answered the phone by saying 'What??!' She was not helpful or friendly. Although, there is a gentleman who did an exceptional job.
If you are used to staying at a higher end establishment, or at least one with a working phone, I would prepare myself for a shock if you have already booked your stay at the Marina Del Rey Beach Club! Good Luck!

  • Liked — The thing I liked most about this hotel was leaving it.
  • Disliked — The thing I like least about the accomodation was its lack of accommodations!!

“Definitely Going Down Hill”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2008

Just spent 2 weeks at the Marina Del Rey. The great part is that the suites are huge and the beach is wonderful, not too many vendors to bother you! There are also some great people working there like Michael, Rosario and Manual...however that is pretty much where it ends. The room was very dirty when we arrived and we went out to buy our own cleaning products as it was unacceptable. However the maids quickly got it clean within the next day or 2...the maids are very willing to help and are appreciated. We did not see even 1 cockroach as was previously reported and were very happy about that. There are 50 units and 20 are owned by full time residents. It was not our first time there as we were there with timeshare owners. There were many people at the desk daily complaining about something, and did not seem to be getting any satisfaction, and they were timeshare owners. It does not seem to be the problem with the staff as much as a problem with the actual owner, who does not seem to be interested in having people own timeshares any more. It's too bad he is not operating in good faith until the timeshare owners use up all of their weeks, and then moving on to full time ownership as he seems to want. We however made the best of it, and had a wonderful vacation.
