“Cheap, But not Good”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 March 2008

This hotel was alright from a cleanliness perspective, but other than that, you don't get much in the way of confort. The beds are rock hard and the ammenities are anything but great.

The grounds are fairly well kept and the pool is useable. I would Suggest this hotel for young people on a budget who are going to be partying all day and night and only need a bed. But you get what you pay for.

“you get what you pay for”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2007

Las Palmas was definately a 2 star Hotel. I do not remember seeing any cockroaches, however our stay was several years ago. The biggest complaint we had was the lack of security and every night non guests would show up and party around the pool. They were loud and disrespectful and the management would do nothing to keep them away. The grounds would be filthy every morning and the staff would work very hard to clean up each morning. We did not use the pool because it had a thick layer of grease on top. I remember the food was ok for a snack, but we really enjoyed eating at the Panama every morning which was conveniently right across the street. Best restaraunt and bakery in Mazatlan! DO NOT stay here if you expect it to be a resort atmosphere. You will not mind this place if you plan to spend the day at the beach. Bring earplugs! It is noisy! Majority of guest are mexicans from inland.

“mmmmm ok for spring break, party goers...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 June 2007

Well i was here in March 2007, i was actually here with 5 other friends, we came to mazatlan for a school congress, and of course partying, and drinking :) this wasnt our first choice we booked a different hotel, that was named ocean something i dont remember the name well but it was so awful we had to change hotels, im actually picky with where i like to stay, and when one of my friends was walking down the malecon he met juan one of those guides who convinced him to pick Las Palmas, he only had to tell my friend that the pool was open untill 2 am and drinking at the pool was allowed, lol and so we stayed at this hotel, truth is it is a little dated, we did have trouble with the plumbing a coumple of times and the air conditioning worked at times only but we hardly stayed in the room this hotel, we did use the pool until about 4am until they kicked us out of the pool, they had to clean it :P and the discos are close by, again i personally like a better hotel but it was ok, clean room staff nice and friendly, my friends seemed to like it, most of them anyways, personally when i come back to mazatlan would choose a different hotel

I won the trip so I had no option to upgrade hotels. I had no idea it would be like that. The building looks ok from the outside but the rooms are nothing special. The pool was very nice though as well as the landscape. Every morning an exterminator would come and spray outside our door. When we would open the door there would be hundreds of cockroaches either dead or dying in the poison. At night you can hear cockroaches hissing and humming. They were everywhere. The light fixture on the wall fell off during the night and hit us in the head. The bathroom smelled like raw sewage. We were only allowed 2 towels to share with 4 people. The place where the cleaning staff did laundry was a shed outside with no floor so the sheets and towels were piled there. A woman a few rooms down had to be taken to hospital for quartarzone shots from so many bedbug bites. There was a playstructure for children with a manhole underneath that had no lid. Local children were playing on it and could have been severely injured. The women at the front desk spoke absolutely zero english. The only good thing was the friendly staff at the hotel restaraunt. The food there was also quite good.

  • Liked — The pool, the waiters
  • Disliked — everything else
  • Tips/Secrets — Reconsider staying here.

After reading all the poor reviews this lovely hotel got I absolutely HAD to write a review! I have stayed at the Las Palmas for nine years in a row and plan to go back again for many years to come! Not only have our rooms been clean and cool but the group that I go down with has always had hot water, clean sheets and towels, fresh bottled water and the staff has never been anything less that accomidating in every way. A few years ago we had problems with another company we had booked a tour through and the manager and front desk staff at Las Palmas were on top of the entire situation and insured that we all got our money back! The two pool areas are tropical and very inviting with many areas for adults and children alike. The hotel is not on the beach, which can be a big plus when there are many people out on the strip- you don't have to deal with the loud music and constant traffic. There are many places to shop and eat near by that will blow you perception of what small areas in Mazatlan are like.
The only caution I have to give is DON'T go to this hotel if you expect every hotel to cater to your every whim, be perfect at all times, and put up with disrespectful tourists. The people at Las Palmas are friendly, professional and just plain fun! Just be open minded and get ready to find a home away from home-but be ready to treat it that way too- like a HOME that you would respect. When it comes to travel in Mazatlan, DON'T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF BECAUSE IT WON'T MATTER BY THE END OF THE DAY!
