“The renovations are very impressive”

Me and my husband went to Mazatlan in November and stayed at the Balboa Towers, he had gotten a recommendation from some friends who used to go there when they were younger and seemed to enjoyed it a lot. I agree with the other users commenting about the lobby being dark, elevators too small and slow, pools are cold....but let me tell you that they´ve been working on this place for a month now and you can really see the difference in the new areas. We went to check out the 4th floor (which is where the models are being done) and man those are incredible! Everything they´re putting up there is brand new; floors, bathrooms, kitchen, terrace, you name it! Everything is coming along pretty nice, besides the construction I really think the location is the best. Walking distance from the beach, markets, hospitals, bars, restaurants, you name it! We are definitely coming back next year to see how everything turned out.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2010

THis hotel is going to be the place for Spring Break 2011, All three student tour companies are putting all their customers in the hotel to take it over. This will be party central this year. Great Location, huge 2 bedrooms and sweet drink specials during the day.. Photos will be uploaded shortly

“Concerned-- BUT”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 May 2010

With another couple we acquired our reservations thru RCI several months ago for a 7 day stay. As time went on we keep reading reviews (neg) about the hotel. So, on our driving trip to Mazatlan we had concerns about staying in the BT and made jokes about what we should do. Upon arrival, we checked in an were overly surprised to find our two bedroom suite was very nice. Not a "5 star" but very roomy, clean and delightful comfortable. The staff -- you couldn't ask for more! The restaurant food was very good - a bit over priced but I think they are working on getting their act together. All I can say is -- try it ... you may like it.

“Like others have said - RUN AWAY!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 March 2010

We booked this hotel online through RCI. They had it rated at 3 crowns, so we felt it would be ok, even though we were reading about the condition of the place, we decided we could put up with an older hotel, since we intended to spend our time outside. From the moment we walked into the lobby, until we left - we found how wrong we were. This is an old - OLD - worn out building. The lobby is sparse, and dark. The front lobby windows haven't been cleaned in a long, long time. The elevator is about 2 foot square - and smells musty, it moves very slowly and squeaky. When we opened the door to our "suite" we were greeted with a smell of propane, and musty/moldiness. The curtains were dirty, and hung down in places they weren't supposed to. The doors to the balcony were dirty, rusty and hard to open. The rooms are large, and it was apparent that this may have been quite nice in it's early years, if only it had been maintained properly. Everything was old, and worn out. The edges of the walls had a dark ring around them where the mops (when they were used) had hit the walls. The fridge smelled, and the shelves were all cracked/dirty. The bathroom and bedroom were in similar condition. The air conditioner sounded like a freight train when it was running. We went down to the lobby to complain, and they offered a different room - we asked to see it first - it was no better than the one we were already in. It was late, so we decided we could tolerate the room until morning when we planned to call RCI. During the night when I went to use the bathroom - I discovered a very large cockroach sitting on the counter. I guess it came up through the drain in the bathroom floor, which was broken. When the toilet was flushed, you could see the water move through the drain. I hardly got any sleep at night due to the air conditioner noise - which really couldn't be called 'air conditioning', since it was just a fan running blowing warm stale air. The next morning we called RCI, and were relieved they had a one bedroom suite for us at the Inn at Mazatlan. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone. RCI has been notified about the condition as well so they can update their rating or drop it completely (recommended).

“How much time are you REALLY spending in the room?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 June 2009

Ok, I'll admit, the room was definately outdated...however, my idea of a vacation involves spending as little time in the room as possible!! It was very clean, the AC worked and the shower ran hot water, what more could we need? We had the best service at the pool area and the beach area! Never had to wait for beachside service!! The location is great and so many activities are right there!! The food at the hotel restuarant (Camacho's) was pretty decent as well! Stay away from this hotel if you plan on hanging in your room and watching TV, but if you're up for some adventures, this is a great and affordable location!!!
