“Like others have said - RUN AWAY!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 March 2010

We booked this hotel online through RCI. They had it rated at 3 crowns, so we felt it would be ok, even though we were reading about the condition of the place, we decided we could put up with an older hotel, since we intended to spend our time outside. From the moment we walked into the lobby, until we left - we found how wrong we were. This is an old - OLD - worn out building. The lobby is sparse, and dark. The front lobby windows haven't been cleaned in a long, long time. The elevator is about 2 foot square - and smells musty, it moves very slowly and squeaky. When we opened the door to our "suite" we were greeted with a smell of propane, and musty/moldiness. The curtains were dirty, and hung down in places they weren't supposed to. The doors to the balcony were dirty, rusty and hard to open. The rooms are large, and it was apparent that this may have been quite nice in it's early years, if only it had been maintained properly. Everything was old, and worn out. The edges of the walls had a dark ring around them where the mops (when they were used) had hit the walls. The fridge smelled, and the shelves were all cracked/dirty. The bathroom and bedroom were in similar condition. The air conditioner sounded like a freight train when it was running. We went down to the lobby to complain, and they offered a different room - we asked to see it first - it was no better than the one we were already in. It was late, so we decided we could tolerate the room until morning when we planned to call RCI. During the night when I went to use the bathroom - I discovered a very large cockroach sitting on the counter. I guess it came up through the drain in the bathroom floor, which was broken. When the toilet was flushed, you could see the water move through the drain. I hardly got any sleep at night due to the air conditioner noise - which really couldn't be called 'air conditioning', since it was just a fan running blowing warm stale air. The next morning we called RCI, and were relieved they had a one bedroom suite for us at the Inn at Mazatlan. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone. RCI has been notified about the condition as well so they can update their rating or drop it completely (recommended).

“How much time are you REALLY spending in the room?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 June 2009

Ok, I'll admit, the room was definately outdated...however, my idea of a vacation involves spending as little time in the room as possible!! It was very clean, the AC worked and the shower ran hot water, what more could we need? We had the best service at the pool area and the beach area! Never had to wait for beachside service!! The location is great and so many activities are right there!! The food at the hotel restuarant (Camacho's) was pretty decent as well! Stay away from this hotel if you plan on hanging in your room and watching TV, but if you're up for some adventures, this is a great and affordable location!!!

“The Good, the Bad and the UGLY”

I stayed at the Mazatlan Balboa Towers this spring for three weeks. , I found the room old and stale, the drapes hung down in places and wouldn't close properly, the kitchenette had few necessities, I ended up buying a small fry pan, dish pan, dish cloths, soap, scrubber, and a kettle. the bathroom was spacious, however the water for about 3 days was as brown and filthy as could be, the cleaning staff didn't do much in the way of cleaning and my bedding was worn and tattered, but it was clean. . But, on the positive side, my room was quiet, my view awesome, and the evening sunsets were worth it. the pool was too cold for swimming, the bar was alright, the food pretty good, and the staff in all were very very friendly. I found the girl at the front desk of the hotel extremely pleasant and friendly.

“RUN RUN RUN don't Walk!”

THIS PLACE SUCKS! Straight up horrible! Everything is old, rusty and smells horrid! I took my family there last week and we had thee worst week of our lives!!!!!! I kid you not! Horrible people, water that was brown and very dirty!( I work as a hydro-engineer and I know that is NOT good water!) I didn't allow my wife or our 1 year old daugther to touch it! The people at the front desk only wanted more money from us and told us that the elevator would be broken for another week. We had to climb 9 flights of stairs to get to our 60's style room. When we first walked into our room we saw a cockroach run from the light. My wife saw it and almost passed out. The manager assured me that it would be fumegated and boy oh boy was it. He put a bug bomb in our room and then it made all our clothes and everything smell and burn when we put it on. They insisted that it wasn't a problem and that they do this in everyone's rooms! WE ASKED EVERYONE and NOT one person had a bug bomb in their rooms. I advise you to NEVER stay here accept old people that don't care anymore or are too cheap to move to another hotel.
We did go to the Pubelo Bunito Hotel and finally got rest there. I would NEVER EVER EVER reccomend this hotel to ANYONE! RUN don't walk!
