Really unique, because it's quiet, safe and secluded – in a residential neighborhood of the Centro Historico. This small, friendly hotel offers a spectacular 270-degree view from the rooftop terrace. Walking distances to the beach, lighthouse, plaza, theater, cathedral and market are easy to estimate, because they all seem close enough to reach out and touch. O'Neil, the American owner, lives on the premises and provides guests with the kind of friendly, personal, truly valuable advice and service that makes the term "concierge" seem stuffy and institutional. Guests are treated to the perfect mix of Mexican authenticity, handcrafted funkiness, Wi-Fi, Cable TV, A/C, a jewel of a pool, clean water and free phone calls to the US and Canada.
Final note: We felt every bit as safe in Mazatlan – even after dark – as in our own small hometown in Oregon.
