“King of the Hill”

Really unique, because it's quiet, safe and secluded – in a residential neighborhood of the Centro Historico. This small, friendly hotel offers a spectacular 270-degree view from the rooftop terrace. Walking distances to the beach, lighthouse, plaza, theater, cathedral and market are easy to estimate, because they all seem close enough to reach out and touch. O'Neil, the American owner, lives on the premises and provides guests with the kind of friendly, personal, truly valuable advice and service that makes the term "concierge" seem stuffy and institutional. Guests are treated to the perfect mix of Mexican authenticity, handcrafted funkiness, Wi-Fi, Cable TV, A/C, a jewel of a pool, clean water and free phone calls to the US and Canada.
Final note: We felt every bit as safe in Mazatlan – even after dark – as in our own small hometown in Oregon.

Room Tip: Higher floors have better views.

“Great Place in Old Mazatlan”

We always enjoy staying in the old part of Mazatlan for a few days before we spend a week at Pueblo Bonito. It's very nice to have such an authentic experience of the city, with close access to the best restaurants, and lots of art galleries and markets to visit. It's a very safe area as well and we've run into several Americans that live in this area for a few months throughout the year.

This hotel is on a hill and has a lot of stairs, unless you're lucky enough to be on the ground floor. But even then, plan to walk up a steep hill to get there! Despite that, if you climb to the top of the building, you'll treat yourself to an amazing panoramic view of the city and the ocean. There's a nice pool area and the grounds are very tropical and clean. The rooms can get a bit stuffy if it's overly warm outside, but we've come to expect that in Mexico. I enjoyed laying out by the pool, rather than inside the room anyways. The rooms also offer a small kitchen with a fridge, so you can store food (or beer) from the market.

I stayed in 2007 and 2008 but to this day I remember my stay. It was great then and is great now as I stopped by for a visit with the owner. It won best hotel award last year he was telling me.

“Perfect in every way”

I stayed at Old Mazatlan Inn for two weeks and it was fantastic.

I had a two-bedroom suite with a full kitchen, living room and balcony. I do not recall the exact rates; but it was very reasonable.

The pool was relaxing and private. The roof garden has, without a doubt, the best view of Mazatlan in Centro Historico.

Plazuela Machado, Plazuela Hidalgo, Olas Altas, the Cathedral and the Central Market are all within easy walking distance.

O'Neil, who runs the Inn, is very thorough and helpful when giving newcomers advice about restaurants, cab fare, things to do and places to see.

Before this trip, I had always stayed at Hotel Belmar; which is a great experience... but a more gritty experience. Old Mazatlan Inn is a completely different kind of amazing experience. Comfort. Relaxation. Clean. Truly PERFECT. The Inn exceeded all of my expectations.

Old Mazatlan Inn is one of the best values, and certainly has all the creature comforts one could ask for. Comfortable beds, an abundance of hot water with great pressure; perfect ocean breezes, and amazing staff to make your stay pleasant.

Enjoy Mazatlan.

Room Tip: ROOM WITH A VIEW! IT IS AMAZING!

“We couldn't have enjoyed it more!”

The Old Mazatlan Inn is a sweet little hotel tucked at the edge of El Centro. It is convenient to everything - a few blocks the Malecon, a few blocks the Merchado, etc.

When you come through the gates into the courtyard it is like stepping in to a magic garden. Every surface is decorated with whimsical mosaics or covered in vines and flowers. There are several seating areas scattered here and there that just invite you to relax with a book. The pool is small but well maintained and the chairs are clean and comfortable. The highlight of the property has to be the rooftop patio. It has a beautiful 360 degree view and a particularly great view of the ocean. It is the perfect place to watch the sunset and have a little glass of wine while you decide where to go for dinner.

The rooms are little suites with a simple kitchen/living area and a separate bed and bathroom. Each room has a balcony with a view and lots of bougainvillea vines spilling over the railings. The decor is quaint and attractive with lots of exposed brick and tile. The furnishings are simple but comfortable. The kitchenette is great if you would like to eat in and there is a fabulous outdoor kitchen in the common area that is available as well.

The service is friendly and wonderful. Everyone from the Manager to the young men who clean the rooms go out of their way to make sure you are having an enjoyable stay. It is the little special touches (like the towels shaped into a swan) that are extra special. The property is great but it really is the personal touch that make staying here such a pleasure.
