“Outstanding - the villa and the staff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2009

All three couples agreed the Villa La Querencia is among the best places we've ever vacationed. The villa and the villa staff exceeded our expectations. The villa is roomy, comfortable and immaculately maintained. The staff was warm, friendly and helpful. By the end of the week we felt like we were leaving friends. Juanita kept us well fed and Lulu was in constant motion keeping the villa neat and clean. Cesar, the house manager, went above and beyond in being helpful, answering our questions and showing us around town.
Our advice to anyone visiting the villa is to take advantage of Juanita's cooking. We enjoyed great food including lots of fresh fruit, shrimp, mexican favorites and more all for about $5 per person per meal. We enjoyed her fresh salsa and quacamole so much that we had her teach us how to make it! Although I'm certain that it won't taste the same without the view!
We also found after exploring the entire area on foot that the location of the villa provides probably the best view in the area. From incredible sunrises to whale watching in the late afternoon to the city lights at night - the view is breathtaking.
For all these reasons and more we highly recommend the Villa La Querencia if you're looking for a beautiful place to relax and be pampered.

“Watch out for the noise below!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2008

We stayed in this villa over the Holiday to celebrate Christmas. The service was great and plenty of attention was given to our comfort. Our family was a three generation group ranging from the ages of five to sixty five. The house was extremely comfortable, the food was great and plentiful. Enrique drove us to day excursions, like the turtle sanctuary, the town of Colima and a few others. We enjoyed the beach nearby, Miramar, where we could have food from one of the restaurants while on the beach. There isn't anyplace to walk and explore close to the villa. We had to drive everywhere.
Our major complaint, and a big one when traveling for relaxation and with small children that wake up early; Las Hadas, the resort very visible and just below the house on the hill played music, had parties, events and a man on a microphone through a loud speaker all playing late until the night, sometimes until 2am. Closing the windows and turning on the a/c didn't drown the sound enough to sleep. This left us tired in the morning. We were told this happens during the Christmas holiday season. Strange that we didn't see many people at the resort, yet the festivities were loud. For this one reason, I would not recommend this villa during the Christmas season. Ricardo was aware of the planned events, as they happen every year. I would suggest you ask about this before renting.

  • Liked — The excellent service provided by the staff. The view.
  • Disliked — The noise from Las Hadas that kept up up too late

“Has it all”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2008

13 of us (3 families) have vacationed together in many desirable locations, but all agreed that this was the perfect spot. The house is perfectly suited for large groups: the covered 'great space' by the pool was a refuge from the sun and a nighttime battle ground for games-we wore out "Cranium"
We will always remember feasting high above the city lights that sparkled on the bay. Each meal was memorable.
Having Ricardo do the leg work and phone calls for our various excursions and grocery requests was truly concierge service.
We are already planning a sequel.

“Best vacation EVER!”

We traveled to the Villa in February of this year (2007). We booked the trip over a year in advance and the anticipation was almost too much to bear. We met dear friends from Seattle and Denver (we are from Maryland) and altogether we had six adults, one 13 yo girl, three 11 yo girls, one 11 yo boy and one 8 yo boy. The rooms, as described by others were clean and comfortable and were decorated in the traditional Mexican style. The staff were absolutely incredible and never have we experienced such fabulous service. Our every need and desire were met. The staff shopped for our food, cooked our meals, cleared the table, cleaned the dishes, mopped the floors, straightened up, made the beds, did our laundry and washed and dried our towels every day, they drove us to the beach and into town and they treated us like absolute royalty. We never felt the need to go out to eat as the food prepared for us was absolute perfection. We chose our menu a day or two in advance and everyday at 5:00 p.m., we were served the most delicious homemade guacamole and tostada chips. With six children of varying ages, we were utterly thrilled to discover that no one EVER complained about anything. They all got along well and I truly believe it was because they were all so relaxed well fed and well rested. The public beach boasted jet skis, banana boating, snorkeling excursions, shopping and hair braiding. For 100 pesos a day ($10) we were all set up with umbrellas and chairs. Be sure to ask Ricardo to bring you Dolphy ice cream (it's too die for). The view was amazingly spectacular and we could actually see whales breeching out in the bay from our pool/deck. And...whatever we wanted to drink was fully stocked in the poolside cooler....What could be better than that? The weather was warm and sunny every day and the entire ambience was exactly what we had hoped for and more. We can unequivocally and wholeheartedly endorse this villa as being the BEST vacation experience we've ever had and trust me when I say that we have been to some top notch spots (can you say the Ritz Carlton in Grand Cayman?)...The Ritz doesn't have anything on Villa de la Querencia. Not a day goes by that I don't think back on that week with fond memories and longing for a time when we can return...

“Everything we expected and more”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 April 2007

Just returned from 8 days, 7 nights at Villa La Querencia [April 19 - 26, 2007], in Manzanillo, Mexico. After reading the reviews on Tripadvisor, and reviewing the Villa's website, [villalq.com] expectations were very high. The only caution was that the reviews were over a year old......alot can change in a year. Our group consisted of 5 - age 50ish couples.
As the title of this review suggests, the Villa was everything we expected and more. The photos of the Villa on their website actually understate the property and the views.
The Villa and the bedrooms are very clean and well maintained. The pool and hot tub are also very clean.
The bedrooms do not have TV sets, but there is a TV room on the main level [ never watched it once in 8 days]
Our group ate dinner out several nights, all our other meals were at the Villa. Juanita is a great cook. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were wonderful; and more than enough. Ricardo, the manager, and all the staff aim to please.
If you are a jogger or a walker, the hilly road that goes around the Villa will give you a good workout. Ricardo can show you the route.
We did not rent a car, the Villa's Surburban was available for trips into the town of Manzanillo, and the local area. [$80.00 per day, with driver] We reserved the car for 5 days only. If you plan on exploring the area outside the Manzanillo area, you will need to rent a car.
The Villa is obviously not a full fledged resort, so I would not recommend it for young children, since there are no activities, etc.
Ricardo arranged a fishing trip for us as well as on site massage and other spa type services. He can give you advice on horseback riding [which we did], restaurants, shopping.
I arranged the trip directly with the Villa. Susan, who is located in Texas answered all my questions.
The Villa is a great spot for a relaxing vacation.
