“Nice place a bit out of the way”

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the resort. It sits on a hill overlooking the bay and provides all rooms with a lovely view. We stayed in a studio room. It came with a nice living area, separated from the sleeping area, and had reasonably sized balcony.

The property is well-maintained, has an outdoor restaurant and two swimming pools.

The restaurant serves three meals a day and is good. The waiters (one during the day) and one during the evening, were very friendly, have been there a long time, and seemed to know everyone whot walked into the place. Their service was excellent as were their respective senses of humor.

The one questionable thing about the hotel is it's location, south of the airport and north of Manzanilla in the area called Naranja. It's not easy to find unless you have good directions, and once you turn off the main highway to the road leading to the hotel, you still have several miles to go over some paved, unpaved and cobbled roads. Lots of bounce to the ounce.

“A quiet resort with a scenic view of the bay and mts.”

We, 4 seniors, just returned from this resort which was a timeshare trade through RCI. Driving down from Puerto Vallarta is about a 4 hour drive. We arrived at night and didn't have specific details on how to reach the resort. We called the resort and the night clerk advised us to ask directions from a taxi cab driver as the clerk did not know English well and couldn't give us clear directions. We followed the taxi down a winding, long, narrow road off the main highway. Trying to find this resort at night is a challenge. Their sign is located by the highway but it needs a light and it doesn't face the highway if coming from Puerto Vallarta. We drove by the sign a couple of times without seeing it. At night it is difficult to see coming from the other direction,
We had a 2 bedroom unit which we shared with our traveling friends. The view from our 2 balconies was stunning, overlooking the bay and distant mts. This resort is built into the mts. which gives it the feel of privacy. We had the resort almost to ourselves during the week of Feb 5th. Service was excellent and staff helpful and friendly. Maid service every day was nice. This resort resembles the style of resorts in Costa Del Sol,Spain, white washed buildings and red tile roofs, built into the mts.
The beds are hard. Should be softer. The downstairs bedroom has twin beds in a small room with a small bathroom which is not comfortable for 2 seniors. The roomy upstaris bedroom has a king size bed and large bathroom We enjoyed the picturesque view of the bay and mts from the upstairs balcony. Showers had to be scheduled as the hot water was limited, perhaps due to only 3 or 4 units in the resort were inhabited. We never cooked in the room but the kitchen supplies and appliances were adequate. We had breakfast daily at the restuarant on site, El Bigotes. Food was good, not gourmet. Mahi mahi, the local fish was popular. Waiters are friendly, helpful ,cheerful and efficient. Local snowbirds come there frequently for Bridge games and meals. There was a friendly, singing musician nightly entertaining the diners. We ate dinner at other restaurants in Manzanillo, including the nearby Le Recif on the cliffs.
Landscaping is well manicured, beautiful with flowering trees, trimmed hedges, flowering bushes and cut green grass. The pool could have been cleaner, clear of mold. The beach is reached by crossing what seemed a new bridge. The sand is gray from volcanic ash. The water is warm, and shallow, great for little kids. Tables, chairs and colorful umbrellas line the beach and can be used if food or drink is purchased.
We used the computer in a small dark room and a staff person needs to open the locked door. The washer and dryers are old and a maid has to start them. The charge for the computer use and washer and dryer is added onto the bill. Bottled water is sold for $1:50 a gal. as there is a sign to not drink the water from the tap.
The four of us enjoyed the quiet week at this comfortable, cozy resort. A great place to relax in February and admire the view.

“Manzanillo...sad we had to leave”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2009

Charming, quaint beach town with tons to do and great food! We visited secluded beaches and even a turtle haven. Playa el Paraiso is very nice and not to mention the best "PESCADO ZARANDEADO" (stuffed fish with shrimp, octupus, cheese & special sauce) I've ever had. AMAZING!

Manzanillo is packed with great restaurants and friendly service. Of course the seafood is the freshest and the price is incredibly affordable. We found a great coffee shop just off the main strip with great special-recipie ice cream. I had melon, coconut, and even corn - yes corn ice cream! So delicious!

Our resort was older, Palma Real, but very clean and the staff was super eager to serve and make our stay as pleasant as possible. The resort had many family events and activities and just across the street from the ocean.

Everything is centrally located - they even have a Wal-mart super center for easy shopping. The beaches are clean, although we might have chosen a bad time of year for swimming - the water seemed a bit rough. There is a little turtle haven about 45 min from downtown. It's a great educational tool for children. There is even a short tour through a swamp nearby - if you're lucky you get to see alligators and unique birds and such.

All in all we enjoyed it and hope to return soon.

“Great Place”

Excellent experience, wonderful staff, beautiful grounds, adjacent to terrific beach, and lagoon. The pool was perfect after a day at the beach. We stayed 7 nights in a 2 bedroom, 2 bath 2 story villa that had great views, cucina, veranda, and living area. Only improvement would be the food at the on site outdoor restaurant. The venue is great, but the food was mediocre. Otherwise a perfect vacation spot.

  • Liked — Our Villa, and the location of the resort (proximity to beach)
  • Disliked — food at on site restaurant

“Loved the Palma Real”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2006

This resort is relatively small however, the grounds are beautifully groomed and the units are well maintained. The staff are excellent and provide service beyond expectations. The beach is an easy walk from the resort and the units all have great ocean views as the resort is located on the side of a hill.

Previous reviews seemed to be from 2003 and earlier and we believed that the resort deserved a more recent review. The resort is quiet and therefore you can easily relax. If you are looking for a resort with many activities and lots of people then this is probably not the place for you.

Our experience was very positive and we hope to return.
