“Still a good place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We just returned from a week's stay at the Tesoro. This was our second stay. Once again we had a spacious and clean room with a comfortable king sized bed, a small balcony and a walk in shower. The service was very good and the staff was polite and eager to please. We spent our time in the beach area where we were well taken care of by the staff. We did not use the pool. It appeared to be crowded and noisy. They sell day passes to the local citizens and they show up in numbers on the week end. A word of warning, you cannot drink the tap water. Safe water is readily available for free at the hotel's bars and restaurants. At checkin, some folks were upset at a lack of ocean view rooms. Due to the nature of the building site, there are not a lot of full ocean view rooms. Partial view rooms will vary - we could see only a distant glimpse of the sea. This was not a big deal to us; but, some folks were outraged. The food was adequate, not fine dining but nevertheless good. This is a very good three star resort. If you want a five star experience this is not for you! We would certainly return again.

“First trip to Ixtapa Mexico”

This was one of the nicest vacactions I have ever had.Food was good ,not exceptional .The room was more than ample and clean.Beautifuul view! Perfect weather.89-93 F. (Jan. 17-24),no rain, barely a cloud. The sister town Zihuatanejo is a quaint little fishing village with lots of shops and restaurants on the beach.Lots to see and do.
Can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Check out the room before you move in ,my first night was in a room 8'x12' plus the bathroom...

“the best and the worst”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

I t was the best of rooms...it was the worst of rooms. First impressions were "gorgeous". We overlooked the pool and the entire breach front The deck was enormous having 2 deck chairs and a large table with plenty of room to spare. The room was very clean, however we did have a few concerns. Most of the floor tiles were loose. The mattresses are very firm making sleeping difficult. Our bar fridge made loud thumping noises all night. The smoke alarm went off twice at 3 a.m. Talk about loud. I ripped the battery out of it and called it "fixed" NOTE
(we had 7 rooms booked with family. Ours was the only room with a fire alarm)
We stayed at the Tesoro during Xmas. The holiday entertainment (evening diner and stage shows) were excellent. Although the Emcee spoke only Spanish our Mexican table guests translated. The traditional Spanish dancers were very entertaining.
As many reviewers have said The Tesoro is a destination Hotel for the locals. A family of four can stay "all inclusive" for approx $ 140.00 per day. Our group of 13 plus 2 canadians from quebec and 2 peole from the U.S. were the only Caucasions in the Hotel.
All the staff are incredible. Service top notch. The food in the restaurant (one only) was very limited and repetitive. The one a-la-carte was no different. The drinks are okay but good tipping will get the bartenter to "tip" the bottle over the glass a little longer.
I would go back to Ixtapa but not at xmas and not at The Tesoro

“Great stay at Tesoro”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

This was our second stay at Tesoro and we noticed an improvement in service. From the front desk to the waiters /bartenders we noticed an improvement .Check in was a breeze and they even told us (without asking)we could change our room if we didn't like the one we were assigned ,which we did.The rooms were kept clean and the fridge was stocked with water /pop daily .The buffet was well stocked and changed up a bit every day .
The Mexican ala carte was fantastic ,great service ,food ,drinks .The service at the pool /beach was great ,the servers were keen on keeping your drink full or asking if you would like some food from the snack bar .A couple of nights they had a theme night and the buffet was outside in front of the hotel .
As for the pool /beach loungers ,you would have to get up early to reserve a beach lounger but if you didn't get one you could lways find one at the pool .The resort seems to be more for families with children and the over 40 crowd (thats us )which is fine as there is not much noise late at night .During the day the entertainment staff would run horse races/bingo /pool aerobics volleyball, pool and beach .Always something to do or just loungs around the pool /beach.
If you want to leave the resort ,the artisian market was just up the street ,many bars /restaurants/retail /vendors.Or you can hop on a bus to Zihua(9 pesos) and check out the restaurants /bars ,vendors ,beaches .
Overall the Tesoro was well worth the money .They could improve on the lobby bar ,if you want to sit by the windows you have to squeeze in as it is very cramped .

We loved our stay here, couldn't get over all the hard working folks on staff there. They are so friendly and love their jobs. We have no complaints at all found everything really good. We would go back in a heartbeat and plan on it next year for our 40th wedding anniversary.

Room Tip: we upgraded to a partial ocean view and the view was fantastic...
