“Mediocre”

I stayed at ParkRoyal Ixtapa for 4 days, and the service there was beyond mediocre. I work on the hospitality Industry myself, and prior to my visit there, I read the other reviews, both English and Spanish. They were bad, but I didn't want to really believe them. Well, once I got there I understood the bad reviews.
I saw the personal in that hotel with no hospitality training whatsoever.
A few Examples:
While eating at the buffet restaurants, servers wouldn't come to take care of us, or they would rush us at the end, cleaning and wiping tables over us still on the table. when ordering drinks, they wouldn't come right or at all.
We were one night at the beach, and the person in charge of cleaning that area came to us 3 times asking us not to step over the sand he had already "swept" We were polite the first time, but after that it just became annoying. It is the sea after all. The waves were messing up his "designs".
Our uncle became sick with something he ate there. When we called and asked for room service, they said we were not allowed to order in because we had the "All Inclusive Pkge"

I tried using the internet a couple of times with no one taking care of the center. In general: Workers are not trained to offer the client a good experience.

I do not recommend this hotel. It's not worth your money.

“LUV It!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2010

I love this place! The people are so nice, and the food is great! Pretty nice rooms, the bathrooms could use some work. They have newly renovated suites which are really nice, and the view is nice from EVERY room. Beautiful view of the beach, and close to a lot of nice shops. Right across the street (not a busy street) from a bike rental shop and the cyclopista (bike path). Right near a nice golf course too, and the hotel next door has a program where you can swim with dolphins. Near casinos and clubs. Has cool events every night at nine, including auctions and a mini-casino (Children are allowed to attend) Really nice loacation, as well as amenities. Also, really cute guys. :)
Visit the Park Royal Villas and become a member, if you can. Really great place!

“Horrid Timeshare - Avoid at all costs”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2008

You will be diving into Timeshare Shark infested waters. Park Royal is notorious for kidnapping tourists under the guise of free meals, etc and whisking them away to strong arm sell a timeshare. Well if you stay here - you are there. They will hound you during the whole stay to buy a timeshare. They are seated outside the elevator, at the hotel entrance, around the hotel, in the lobby just waiting to pounce on you time after time to buy a timeshare.

It creates unnecessary stress for you your holiday vacation.

The hotel is nice, the food is good, the ocean is fun.

But who needs to be constantly pressured to buy a timeshare?

I talked with Park Royal timeshare owners there and they said the timeshare management is a mess. You cannot reach anyone on the phone. When you do pay your annual fee, they keep hounding you during the year to pay it - yes, their record keeping is that bad.

I would avoid Park Royal properties like the plague.

“Romantic get away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2008

Royal Villas are located on the property of the Barcelo Hotel. Beautiful property right on the beach front. The villas were air conditioned, hot running shower and a nice view of the Pacific Ocean. Our villa was facing the mountain side but had a balcony facing the ocean.

This was our honeymoon get away yet had the 2 full size bed.

Downside: beds were bit stiff, tv was in ok shape, and we did not have all inclusive.

Barcelo had 2 restaurants, a club and three pools,

“Park Royal Ixtapa - even better than before”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2008

Been to the Villas twice, and its recent renovation makes a huge difference. I'm from San Francisco, so I'm used to good food - and the food here has gotten loads better since my first trip 2 years ago. The rooms are very luxurious and the service is very attentive.

For us, it was a great home base from which to get to the great beaches and explore Ixtapa/Acapulco/Guerrero, We saw some slightly fancier places, but were more than twice the price. We thought this was a great value.

Anyways, compare them to the others on TripAdvisor before you take my word for it.

  • Liked — Luxurious hotel, great service & food
  • Disliked — It's not a super-spa-type place. But I didn't go there for that.
