“Don't believe the bad reviews!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

We visited this hotel for two weeks (Jan 21-Feb 4, 2012) and I wish I was still there! Las Brisas is the best all inclusive resort I have been too, and I have been to quite a few. I travelled with my husband, 3.5 year old daughter, my parents, friends of my parents and their 30 something son. We requested adjoining rooms with my parents and because the hotel was fully booked we were not able to get the rooms we wanted that day. We talked to the front desk the next morning and we were moved to the adjoining room for the rest of our two week stay. The rooms were very clean, spacious and the balcony was very large with an amazing view of the ocean, a hammock and two chairs and a table. The bathrooms we very nice as well. There are no bathtubs - only a shower.

The staff at this hotel were incredible. We made some great friends with the staff over the 2 weeks, they learned what you liked and a small tip goes a long way to getting great service!
Victor is one of the lifeguards at the beach and the pool and he was happy to show us sea shells, sting rays and a star fish. He even gave our daughter a bag of amazing sea shells! Victor and the other life guards save the turtle eggs on the beach from the birds and invite the hotel guests to help release the baby turtles after they hatch - it was an amazing experience! We got to hold and release the turtle - such a great experience for all of us!

Our favourite restaurant was La Brisa II. It is an outdoor restaurant that overlooks the beach and the ocean. The food was AMAZING. Jose Manuel was an amazing waiter, he made sure that everyone had a great meal and that our daughter was having a good time. All the restaurants were great. Breakfast is a buffet, for lunch you can go to the Solarium a la carte or you can eat off menu's at the beach or the pool. There are 4 a la carte places to choose for dinner-3 of which require reservations.

If you are travelling with kids:
-Some days it seemed as if the only kid at the hotel was our daughter!
-There is a great kids club up the stairs from the main pool. It is open 11-2 and 3-5. Our daughter could not wait to go there to do crafts! The ladies that work in there are great with kids!
-There is a small kids pool with loungers all around it for the kids to play in.
-The small "couch" in the room worked very well as a bed for our daughter. We requested some extra sheets and made her a bed-she slept very well.
-The ocean is quite rough and unpredictable at times - keep an eye on them and don't expect the little ones to be able to play in the water.
-The information book in the room asks that you get a babysitter for kids under 12 for the Italian and the Mexican restaurant but we took our daughter every time and the staff were very accommodating. We brought crafts for her to do because dinner takes anywhere from 2-3 hours.

A few other points:
-Lots of stairs - with all the food you will eat they are a good thing!
-The mini bar is not included in the all inclusive package (we brought coffee and filters and made our own coffee each morning) and enjoyed it on the patio overlooking the ocean.
-The trip into Ixtapa is very short and worth a visit. Lots of shopping and places to eat.
-If you can go all inclusive - do it - the food would be very expensive if we had to pay!
-Buckets of Corona will be delivered to your palapa while you sit by the pool or the beach!
-If you don't like hard beds ask the front desk for a mattress pad and you will get one delivered to your room.
Please don't listen to the bad reviews - this place is amazing and we will be going back very soon!

Room Tip: Try and get a room above the 15th floor for a better view (although they are all great)

“Best All Inclusive we have stayed at!”

We just got back from a 2 week vacation at this resort. Our only complaint is that we had to leave it. The resort is built on a hill so there are lots of stairs and it is spread out over a very large area so there is lots of walking. If you have any mobility problems this is probably not the place for you. I have knee issues but managed just fine. First, the staff are fantastic, they bend over backwards to help with anything you need. The food is some of the finest I have eaten and the servings are very plentifull, all ordered from the menu except for breakfast at the buffet. The rooms are large with a little sitting area and a fantastic deck with a gorgeous ocean view from every room. The private beach is breath taking and the sand is white a very fine. Be wary of the wave, they look nice but can catch you off guard and throw you around but they are really fun to play in on a calm day! Lots of marine life to explore on the beach also. Turtles that they hatch on site and you get to let them go. Pelicans diving for lunch as you sit on the beach and sip your ice cold corona that is served to you on the beach. If you go, go all inclusive it would be very expensive if not all inclusive. There is a safe in the room at no charge.

“SUPER VACATION”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

My wife and I and another couple spent the last week in January, 2012, at this unique location. We were on 'all inclusive', stayed in rooms in the 1820's. Floor 18 is, indeed, superb for its great view (but the next lower few floors would be great). Our ages range from 66-71.

The four of us have cruised in W and E Caribbean, Panama Canal, Alaska, and W Mexican coast. Have also vacationed in MD, OR, NV, CO, CA and WA. Also spent a week in all inclusive on E Mexican coast.

We had studied prior reviews on tripadvisor and found the negative/critical comments did NOT fit our experience. It was a terrific experience. We ate all meals on-site. We did have slight mobility issues--so we did not hesitate to take elevators and on a few occasions we took shuttle down to pools. The walking through the property was filled with interesting details in the surrounding rain forest. If one needs to use a walker or wheel chair, this is not the place for you. All others--no problem.

We ate all meals on-site (except for Italian restaurant). Food and service were all we could have expected.

Room had significant features: to-die-for view, AC deactivated when door to balcony is open, three large attractive potted flowering plants, and best lighting we've ever seen (nicely accommodating our penchant for reading in bed for up to an hour before lights-out). Very ample storage and drawer space.

The private beach is shared with a pod of pelicans (entertaining us with their dive-bomb fishing), but no vendors hawking their wares. Compared to the crowded beaches at high-rise resorts in Ixtapa, our beach was clean, quiet, uncrowded, and with many shade cabanas so need to 'reserve in advance'.

A superb, restful, clean resort on its own beach surrounded by trees/plants of a rain forest, with a more then sufficient team of attentive staff folks. A MOST attractive and restful place.

“Superior Experience If Looking For Relaxation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

My wife and I made our first, and absolutely not our last, trip to Ixtapa and chose Las Brisas after researching resorts on the web. I must admit that we were a bit startled when we were the only people from our WestJet plane to get into a taxi and arrive at the spectacular, modern, and elegant hotel on a fairly large, private beach. All we heard was crickets as we were greeted by friendly, cooperative and knowledgeable staff. There were incredibly few guests, but this meant incredible service and a feeling of being almost alone on the amazingly flat, hard, and fine sandy beach. Always prompt delivery of pails of ice with whatever drink you might want. A choice of three a la carte restaurants with food that offered variety, quality, and a flair for presentation. We were always delighted, but we did make great choices. Such a treat! Also, no strict limits on reservations, you could, and we did, eat a la carte every evening for two weeks.
We realize that most of the guests were, like us, mature, but the beautiful grounds, long, winding paths through the jungle, great beach for waling, and a chance to climb stairs until your body weeps did provide ample fitness opportunities. Of course, there were also lots of elevators and even a shuttle to take those needing a break a ride to the glorious pool area. We wanted a richer fitness experience and found it with a truly grand selection of equipment in a cool workout room with a great, really great, view of the jungle on the mountain side of the resort. We did daily 90 minute workouts after breakfast and that helped keep the calories in balance! It was the best resource of any we have seen in Mexico in over a dozen visits to many fine resorts.
Others will rave about the breathtaking lobby bar. Wow! What a great design and what spectacular sunsets. Stunning! Great service. Beautiful surroundings and three days a week of cool, live jazz.
I guess I loved it a lot. Yes I did.
However, you would have trouble if you had mobility issues. Also, I did NOT like the room bar being all expensive, including coffee! Bottled water is the most expensive item of any. That makes no sense at all, since you can get the same bottles for free at the beach or the pool and bring them back to your room. What is THAT about?
Breakfasts were the best ever. The beach was incredible. You felt pampered with great numbers of lounges and chairs and palapas stretched along the approximately 750 metre long private beach. We got to release turtles that were saved as eggs and hatched in cages. This was wonderful and touching.
Sure, there was no bingo. Also, no water aerobics. No driving salsa music. No vendors selling anything and everything. I guess you just have to do without some "Mexican culture" stuff!! The WiFi was very expensive, although you could get free WiFi in a limited area near the lobby bar.
We liked the quiet. We enjoyed the food. We loved the staff. We were in awe of the views and the overall design.
I highly recommend this resort for a certain kind of holiday! I think you might fall in love, with the resort at least, and maybe, just maybe with each other!

Room Tip: They are all great. We wanted non smoking so that limited it to certain floors, but our room had sp...

“Wonderful, Relaxing Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

I booked this stay through Costco Travel, which included several gratuities and airport transportation. (A warning to anyone else booking through Costco, be sure to meet your shuttle driver just outside the airport doors as stated in the documents provided by Costco. Anyone meeting you INSIDE the airport works for timeshare companies--NOT Costco.)

The hotel is tucked away in a secluded area on the cliffs of Ixtapa. It's partially open air in all the public areas, so you always get the fresh ocean air. Be prepared to meet a little wildlife in the form of geckos in the daytime, and bats in the evening. Despite the hotel being surrounded by jungle, I didn't see more than a couple spiders during our five-night stay-- and these were on the grounds and not inside the hotel. On the beach: crabs, baby turtles (with a sunset release every day, weather permitting), and pelicans. And butterflies!

From the moment we stepped out of the taxi, we were treated like welcome guests. Without exception, the service was friendly and helpful. Stephanie worked the front desk all week, and I was impressed with her professionalism and impeccable English.

The rooms are well kept and comfortable. The shower is a huge walk-in deal. (No tub, but we certainly didn't miss it.) Every room is ocean facing, and when you open the patio doors to let in some fresh air, the A/C kicks off. Neat trick! The mattresses are firm, which some people might not appreciate. We did. We were given fresh bottled water in our room every day, but since the hotel offers filtered water, the tap water is also safe to drink.

We purchased the Beach Club package, and were fed a delicious and filling breakfast every morning. We were so well fed, we didn't need to eat lunch. Then every evening at 6:00 they serve complimentary beverages and snacks in the Lobby Bar. The snacks included so much food we only ate dinner twice! There's a snack bar on the beach, and by the second day the waiter learned what we liked to drink and would bring us fresh beverages as soon as we set up camp for the afternoon. We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Portofino Ristorante. For antipasti, salad, and two entrees, our total bill was around $80 US. We told the waiter we were celebrating a special occasion, and they brought us complimentary (DELICIOUS) chocolate cake with "Happy 15 Year Anniversary" written in chocolate sauce on the place. Wonderful!

As for the beach itself, think "relaxation". The hotel wasn't busy, being the tail end of the rainy season, so we had the pick of palapas every day. Yes, it did rain-- but only for a few hours every day. This didn't prevent us from spending hours on the beach in the sun. The water was pretty rough, so we only waded in to cool off. There were a few swimmers, though. I can't comment on the pools, since we only walked past and spent most of our time on the beach. I can say they pool areas were clean and inviting.

If you feel like exploring, Ixtapa is within walking distance and is a perfectly safe walk down the highway. Zihuatanejo required a taxi ride, but the cost was reasonable. Ixtapa had more high-end shops, but was chock-full of timeshare salesmen. These guys WILL chase you down the street. True, they're perfectly friendly, but it was pretty annoying. We didn't run into a single one in Zihua. The galleries and shops in Zihua are a must see. We fell completely in love with this town.

I can't say enough great things about Las Brisas. We had a fantastic stay. I'm counting the days for our next visit!

Room Tip: ALL the rooms are ocean facing, so you are guaranteed an amazing view no matter which room you book!
