All of the "very good" and "excellent" reviews had to be written by the owners themselves.
In our month long vacation around Mexico, we stayed in lovely B&Bs in Mexico City and Guanajuato and Oaxaca. Rick and Brooke's place was one of about 5 during our visit. I read about how the hosts opt to sit with guests during breakfast, and I also was aware that breakfast did not vary - but I guess I had to see it to truly believe it. Every other place in Mexico offered something hot for breakfast - enchilladas, eggs, etc. I thought surely when staying at Agua Azul for 5 NIGHTS that Brooke and Rick would offer something different at some point. I also thought that Rick and Brooke had enough social grace to TAKE A HINT and realize that paying guests do not want to have their vacations disrupted with inane conversations about American politics and what they feel is wrong with Mexican society. Not only was this inappropriate, but their opinions are based on completely inaccurate rhetoric. Surely, I assumed, bed and breakfast owners have enough sense to read the social cues their guests were giving off that they wanted to be alone and enjoy each other's company.
I also agree wholeheartedly with previous reviewer's complaints that the "quick" walk to the beach was not safe nor quick, despite being young and exceptionally fit as well as the other remarks that it could have been made clearer that we would have to arrange for a taxi to do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING, save for having the same boring fruits and fattening granola every day.
Lastly, when it was time to move elsewhere in Oaxaca, Brooke told me that she ASSUMED I wanted to use the same credit card I reserved the room with two months prior. I did not plan to pay with the same card, but Brooke informed me that Rick had ALREADY CHARGED my credit card and she DID NOT KNOW HOW TO USE THE MACHINE. How can a two-person run establishment have one person who does not know how to do credit card transactions? This was frustrating, annoying, and yet not surprising after seeing the dynamic between Rick and Brooke.
This couple should not be in charge of anything, especially what needs to be a people-oriented B&B.
Room Tip: The internet frequently went out and Rick and Brooke have an extremely limited concept about how mod...

I am truly sorry that “Motoazabu” did not enjoy their stay with us. Our guests come from a variety of backgrounds with a wide range of opinions, experience and expectations. We try to make everyone feel comfortable in our home and the feedback we have had over the past twelve years indicates that most enjoy both the breakfast we serve and opportunity to engage in conversation during breakfast. We are all human and obviously we missed the mark with this couple. I wish that they had indicated their preference to be left alone in the morning, we would have been happy to oblige.
Our website says that the walk to Tejoncito beach is about 15 minutes. The stairs are rustic but were approved by the department of the federal government overseeing beach access. The construction at the beach is scheduled for completion before Christmas and a more convenient access through the beach club will be available.
During their stay in August we were having a problem with internet connection. A new router has made Wi-Fi easily accessible throughout most of the villa.
