We were a group of 14 staying at the Barcelo, most of us first time to Huatulco. Great hotel, nice friendly staff. "A special mention to Bellboy Humberto Alcantara who was most gracious, friendly and helpful,hello from your cigar smoking friend Garry. We look forward to seeing you again our next visit." The hotel was a nice size, not too big, clean, friendly helpful staff, good food. The Barcelo is located in a nice area with shops and restaurants close by and a quick taxi ride into Crucaceta. Would definitely go back to the Barcelo and the Huatulco area.

visited Barcelo during the third week of Jan 2012. The weather there seems to be the most consistent in Mexico. One of the hardest things about coming here is deciding on where to stay.
Last year we stayed at Las Brisas, which had better beaches with very few venders. It also has larger rooms but lots of stairs which is great if you want to keep the weight off. Its Mexican restaurant is the best with a great Mexican coffee show to finish off the meal.

The Barcelo had better shows though they got repetitious as they where mainly dance. Don't get me wrong the dancers where great its just that I can only handle so much. We had better food here and the activity group was very good. Maritza was really helpful and did a great job of motivating us to get off our butts and take part in the activities, which we haven't really done in the 3 years we have traveled to Mexico, that is no small feat. Jose did a great job of MC through the activities and night shows.

If you want to book tours see Stephan or Adam just down the street for tours up to Canadian standards, with great prices. We did the lower river tour and had a great time.

We traveled as two families with two kids, aged 3 and 6 (Jan.31st to the 7th of Feb.) The ride from the airport was only about 25 minutes. When we arrived at the resort we were welcomed by the staff with smiles and a drink. The check in was quick and even-though it was more then an hour before the check in time , the rooms were ready so we could get settled in with the kids.
The rooms were clean , with a mini bar that was restocked every day with water, juices , beer and snacks.
The resort is not too big, which is what we like since it is nice and short walk from your room to any of the restaurants , bars and it is located directly on a beautiful beach.
The food in the buffet restaurants was excellent . Plenty of places to get a drink all through out the resort. The people working there were very friendly . Robert ( looks a bit like Puss from the Sopranos ) is one of the bartenders in the night club. You can count on him for a great service and even greater smile. We would recommend this place to anyone !!
If there was anything negative that I could say about this place it would be just one thing. You can not take any food out of any of the restaurants . That's it , pretty minor .
For anyone looking for a good spot for a sunny destination, check out Barcelo , Huatulco, you will not regret it.

My husband and I had been to Huatulco 4 years ago and returned with my sister and her husband this year (Feb 1, 2012). It was great. There had been some upgrades, better food selection and better service all around. The rooms were clean and had all the amenities we needed. The beach was great, with drink service this year :-) There was as little or as much to do as any of us needed.
The staff were all very helpful and friendly. We made a couple of quick trips into La Crucacita and were impressed at the cost and condition of the taxis. We felt completely safe on and off the resort (unlike some other destinations we have been to).
If you enjoy heat and the beauty of swimming in the ocean, it is a great place to go.
