“Great Spring Break Hotel!”

Ok, first, If you check the forums, I've said the same thing, but a small note.

These are NOT Las Vegas, Chicago, or NY, or Paris Hotels. They are not gonna be extravagently decorated and every nook and crannie spotless. Be realistic and get over it.

As far as the Playa goes, I LOVED THIS HOTEL. It is a great hotel for spring breakers especially. The elevators are fast and everything there is accessible. The omelet bar in the morning was sweet and the food was good most of the time, they always had something different to eat.

The pool bar and the bartenders were awesome as well and definately make the drinks strong if you ask nicely enough. The hotel staff takes strong advances towards making the hotel safe.

I stayed in a Penthouse suite on the 18th floor and it was awesome. All the rooms have a sunken in living room area and a balcony that faces the ocean. Our room had 2 floors and had another balcony, 2 beds, and bathroom on the second floor.

There were games during the day and if you didnt do that, the beach area is HUGE and a good time as well.
My friends and I would definately stay here again and we are hoping to do so in the future.

“Playa Suites improved”

We have been staying at the Playa Suites for over 10 years. Was very surprised this year with some of the renovations that have been done since last year. The new entrance is very unattractive and difficult if you have a problem walking. The restuarant has new furniture although plastic. The restuarant staff is still very friendly, especially Fillipe who has been our waiter since we have been staying at the Playa. As per usual the front desk staff is very limited in their command of the english language but understand in a limited fashion. We were again surprised at the room, as it had new drapes, bedspread and couch and chair coverings, even though the valances were still covered by the old faded beige material. The biggest surprise was that the air conditioning worked for a change. Our maid was excellent, the room was always cleaned and smelled like it. My biggest complaint is the fact that their response to guest complaints hasn't changed. The Tuesday before we were to leave we went up to our room at 2:00PM expecting to take a shower and then an afternoon siesta. To our dismay there was no hot water. I called guest services and the individual that answered seemed to be very no chalant and said he would send someone up to fix it. I tried to make him understand that there was no hot water period and sending someone up was not going to solve the problem as I was sure the entire building was without it. Three phone calls later I guest services transferred me to Operator 5 who seemed to be very caring about the problem and said she would have someone call be with an explanation. Now this was 40 minutes after the original call. About ten minutes later a woman called Claudia who said she was the manager called and I stated what the problem was. She said that she would have to check with her maintenance people. I said what kind of a hotel was she running if she didn't even know that one of her buildings was without water and that her maintenance people hadn't told her of the problem. I was told that I shouldn't be yelling at her, which I was not, as the phone connection was not the greatest. She said she would find out what the problem was and would call back. We are now home and I am waiting for her call back. I think that Best Western who I understand owns the Hotel now needs to train their management people to better respond to their guests and train their supervisory people to inform management when a problem of this magnitude occurs they need to be informed immediately. They also need to improve their cable services to include more english programs and to better police the pool area on the weekends when children are there from Mexico City jumping in and out of the pool with no parental or hotel supervision. Would I come back? Probably with the hope that the improvements will continue and the staff better trained and educated and management be available to the guest, especially the guest services manager.

“Just Ok”

I went to Playa Suites for my spring break, which my travel agent told me that there would be young people at the resort. Boy was she wrong, my girlfriend and I were the only ones that were in our 20's. The age literally started at 50+ and ALL Italian. Since they were all Italian, we had pasta all 8 days for lunch and dinner. Nothing was mexican or any other kind of food. We actually got pretty sick from the food (running to the bathroom every couple minutes, if you know what I mean). We couldn't bare to eat the food anymore that the last couple days we just ate out (definetly bring gravol)! Overall the size of the room was really good and it was clean everyday. The workers did not speak english but seemed to be quite friendly and helpful. Do not go on the beach if you don't want to get mauled by locals to buy things. If you are on spring break, I would recommend staying at Coca Cobana (how ever u spell). We went during the day there.

“I wouldn't go back if you paid me!”

Well, I don't even know where to start with this 1 star hotel. Let me note that I have traveled multiple times with buddies to Carribean and Mexico, however I might say that this has to be one of the worst hotels I have ever been too.
When you arrive please do not expect a lobby or nice entrance, because there is none? Its almost like a little cubby hole that smells bad.

Service- I wouldn't say the people who work there are the happiest bunch of people around. Like most places if you don't speak Spanish or don't tip you are not going to get the answer you need.

Rooms-probably best part of the hotel (ironic because that is where you spend your least amount of time). However the elevators to get to your' rooms are disgusting and it’s a long wait so please don't be in a rush. Oh I nearly forgot, the huge bugs in the hallway, don't be frightened they don't move much but one got into my buddies room and wasn't fun.

Pool-small, crammed with little kids, and just not enjoyable or relaxing.

Beach- was disgusting, however you already have to have that expectation for beaches in Acapulco. Sand was not nice on the feet, and full of cig butts.

Food- haha, I can't even comment on this I think I want to vomit just thinking about it. It was literally slop, undercooked hot dogs, and when I say undercooked I mean freezer burn still on. No selection and what there was just tasted nasty. (I am pretty open person and not too picky with food, but if you have a sensitive stomach don't eat here). OH nearly forgot if you want a clubhouse, or a real hamburger burger,, and french fries? You have to pay a good 7-8$ American.

-Entertainment was basically none at the hotel, but if you want to go clubbing pladdium is the place to be, and it's sister club just below as well. Disco beach wasn't to bad as well. The nightlife in Acapulco is pretty good,

All in all this is Mexican locals hotel (we were there from dec 28-janury4th), tourists are far and few between. All Mexicans come from the city stay here. The crowne plaza is next door and I think only a couple hundred more, if you arrive and walk into both hotels you would probably tell yourself you would pay 1000$ more to star there.

(p.s- if you want more about the nightlife and such just ask, I have tonnes of pics)

“Anywhere But Here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2006

I have traveled extensively and can confidently say that the Playa Suites in Acapulco is the worst hotel in which I have ever stayed. My list of complaints is extensive, so I will focus on the most egregious highlights of my stay.

When we arrived, we were given a room that was completely different from the rest of the rooms booked for our group at the same rate. Ours was quite a bit smaller, without furniture in the "living" room, with a hole where a refrigerator was supposed to be, and with a balcony facing the trash collection area of the hotel next door. When we asked the management to move us to a room that was more acceptable, they had just one option-when we went to check it out, we were nearly floored by the strong smell of mold. We decided that it was in the best interest of our health to stay in the first room. The hotel manager was unwilling to do anything to rectify the situation.

On the first night, we decided to try the buffet. This was a mistake. The charge was $25 and it was nowhere near acceptable. I love Mexican food and am always willing to try new things, however this food was terrible!! The buffet consisted of several pans of mystery meat floating in mystery sauce, all of which tasted like instant dinner. The burgers were of high-school cafeteria quality. The drinks were weak and when I ordered a beer, I wasn't even brought a bottle or pint. Instead, I watched the bartender pour me a six ounce plastic cup from a forty. Classy!! With so many different options for inexpensive, wonderful cuisine in Acapulco, it is foolish to purchase the all-inclusive option at Playa Suites.

The poor quality of food is not unique to the all-inclusive option. When I ordered ceviche from a waiter at the pool, I recieved what appeared to be a mush of canned tomatoes and low-quality frozen fish.

The hotel is unsafe and I would imagine that in the past there have been accidents here. The polished stone floors in the lobby were CONSTANTLY wet and very slippery. I fell down TWICE walking through the hotel, and I am an athletic 23 year old male. I know that my fitness was not at fault here.

The beach is ridiculous. At every other resort I have stayed at in Mexico, a private area of beach is stantioned off for guests. The beach area here was laughable. The hotel's area was tightly packed with chairs and without a view of the ocean. If you want to lay on the beach, be prepared to work out a deal with a local to rent a chair.

The rooms were shabbily furnished and it was impossible to get more than three towels. You could tell that each detail in this hotel was planned to save its owner pennies. Most appalling was a sign in the bathroom. I will summarize:
"We provide towels and sheets in our rooms as a convenience to our guests. If any are found missing, they will be charged to the maid. Please refrain from taking any to avoid unfortunate circumstances for your maid."
I couldn't believe my eyes and thought that perhaps this was a mis-translation from Spanish, so I read the Spanish version of the sign as well, which said the exact same thing. That is just wrong. The maids at hotels like this are already poor and downtrodden and to charge them for towels stolen by guests is really rotten. Any company that would treat its employees like this is one that I would prefer not to patronize.

Never stay at the Playa Suites. I have never experienced anything like this and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone.
