“Going back next year!”

Mar Azul is small, 24 rooms total. The first 5 floors are large 2 bdrm. suites that have oceanfront balconies and beautiful mountain views from the back of the units. When we arrived, we were greeted by Aurelio, the front desk manager, who acted as though he had known us all of our lives. What a warm welcome! Our room was ready when we arrived at 3:30PM, but we were told that if we cared to wait a few minutes, we would be upgraded to a higher floor. We opted to wait, and 20 min. later our room on the 5th floor was ready.
Our room was not only huge but immaculate. I was traveling with 2 other lady friends and we were totally impressed with our unit. The rooms are not luxurious, but are very clean & comfortable.
Our balcony overlooked the outdoor pool which was small, but crystal clear and well-maintained.
The members of our party averaged 60 yrs.in age and we found this resort perfect for a relaxing vacation. There are no pool games, no loud music or any types of entertainment at the resort. However, Mar Azul is only 1 1/2 blocks away from one of the busiest streets in the city and there are multitudes of restaurants, shops, and clubs to be found there.
The resort does have a small bar & grill near the pool and the drinks and food were not only good, but very reasonable.
The dates of our stay were from Nov. 27 thru Dec. 4th, so we had a chance to participate in decorating the lobby for the holidays and we actually helped put up the tree! We were treated like family and look forward to returning to Mar Azul next year.

“Why stay anywhere else.”

Great location as you can walk to great food, music, bars etc.. Also hotel is on the beach and has an all right pool. Elevator is slow, the staff is very helpful. Very nice security here so you will feel safe. Weather is also perfect in December no rain and plenty of sun. Fishing is not that good any more, cliff divers are a one time event not that big a deal.

“Not the best place in Acapulco..”

The Place is down a back street that is very dark, but not to be alarmed. We had no problems walking down those dark streets. The pool was tiny, and you had to pay to use chairs at the beach. The beds were rather hard, and the windows don't fully close so you can hear everything. The a/c was set as is and that was freezing. I know its mexico but I have never encountered this problem...a big ol' cockroach in the room. There is no activities or entertainment so it's not a good place for kids, teens or someone looking for a good time! The pool bar was small, and seemed like it was barely ever opened. The front desk staff weren't very helpful.

“A wonderful experience”

This was our first trip to Acapulco. We used the Trip Advisor to gather information on Hotels. This Hotel, the Mar Azul, was by far the best choice among travelers. The reviews were so good that my wife and I were somewhat skeptical. This small 9 story Hotel really lived up to all the favorable comments.
Our room was on the 7th floor facing the ocean. Our view was wonderful. Floors 1 through 4 are two bedroom suites with two bathrooms and floors 5 through 9 are one bedroom suites and somewhat larger than the two bedroom ones. The kitchen is well equiped. There is even a butter dish and a napkin holder with napkins. There is a A/C in the living room and one in the bedroom. The bedroom has a King size bed! They have cable TV with Fox on Ch 75. We were able to keep up with the news while we were there for two weeks. The hotel pool is great and there are table and lounge chairs around the pool as well as on the beach. And, there is Danny. Danny has a small hamburger place off the lobby where he also serves drinks and if you catch a fish, he will cook it for you.
The staff is absolutly great. Elliot is a wealth of knowledge. The entire staff went out of their way to make our visit a success. We had a problem with our TV and it was fixed right then and there, not later. Maid service was excellant and if you needed anything, the front desk was on it and there was minimal delay. The Hotel may be old but is well maintained, super clean inside and out.
The Margo Tour agency has a hospitality desk in the lobby and their tours are reasonable and their drivers know everything about Acapulco and they speak English.
While we were in Acapulco we went fishing ($200 for the BOAT-max amount of fisherpeople=6. $33.33 per person through Margo) We caught two Mahia Mahia, two Spanish Mackerel and two Jack Tuna between two former Alaskans and two Canooks. We had the restaurant around the corner cook the fish for us. Elliot set it up.

Another restaurant you do not want to miss is the Cabrilo where they serve young Goat. And, across the street is the Europa, a liquor store that sells a limited number of liquor from other parts of the world.
Of course the Cliff Divers are the biggest attraction in Acapulco. Take the Margo dinner tour, it was well worth it and the steaks were great.

In the Trip Advisor, we read a few negative commente about the Mar Azul. One comment was about the noise. Well, The beaches in Mexico are owned by the people. On Fri or Sat, the people of Acapulco like to spend time on their beaches and have fun. We found that the noise usually subsided by b10:30 at night. And, the noise was not that loud! Also, there was a comment about the Airconditioning being too loud. We did not find this to be a problem.

Before we left for Acapulco, we asked our fellow Trip Advisor members about renting a car. You all said no!! So, we didn't and we were thankful. From the airport to the Hotel, it was bumper to bumper traffic. There is one main road around the bay. Cabs are cheap, 25 pecos for the VW bugs. Much safer to take a taxi.

All in all, Rosie, the manager and her staff made our stay one that we will remember for a long time. And should we want to go back to Acapulco we will definately stay at the Mar Azul.

“Excellent Place”

We are members of WIVC. We stay at Mar Azul every year, and this time I've decided to write a review. Every year we have a wonderful time and hence keep coming back.

Mar Azul is a cozy condo with excellent service. The manager and employees have been working at Mar Azul for years, so they are like family.

The rooms are impecable, the kitchen is fully loaded with everythign you can think of, the view is magnificent, the pool is small but clean and warm, the beach is private and great location. The condo is very safe, we truly feel at home every year we go there.

It is located one block from "La Costera" where you can take a taxi/bus to anywhere in Acapulco.

We have upgraded to a 2 bedroom condo and are also thinking of buying an extra week. We love Mar Azul and will recommend it to anyone. If you have any questions, feel free to drop me a line.

Enjoy!
