“Mislead and disappointed”

What a shame to come away with disappointments from an otherwise wonderful trip. Must agree with report given by the Missouri travelers who stated that the advertised "complimentary airport transportation" was not provided. Also, the bottled water was not included. Staff/management indifferent when we showed them the printed materials advertising these amenities. I even emailed them twice prior to arrival (in Spanish!) in order to confirm our reservation and verify that someone would pick us up...no response. Hotel has a great location & potential but there is much room for improvement.

“Grande Dame of Acapulco”

El Mirador-The Grande Dame of Acapulco-
It can best be described as a 2-star hotel. What a shame that it may soon be out-classed by other, more modern hotels in the area. There are many signs of deterioration. It needs more of everything! More paint, more hardware replacements, more landscaping, more service personnel with at least some command of English, and better transportation for access. The hotel is rich in history and still boasts of better than average entertainment and cuisine. It advertises round trip transportation to and from the airport, but does not honor this offer. In all, a spot that is physically beautiful to see and admire on a bus tour, but questionable for a week or weekend stay! Much room for improvement!

“Faded Glory”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2006

I just returned from my second trip to Acapulco and look forward to making my third. My first trip was on our honeymoon 28 years ago so I hope I don't wait that long for the next!

My next trip won't be for the glitz and glamour if that is what you call the newer section of the strip, it will be for the faded elegant charm of the El Mirador Hotel. Don't get me wrong, the hotel is in much needed repair but the location is it's saving grace. The view of the cliff divers and endless ocean make this a wonderful spot just to relax.

I'm not a beach person nor a partier so just sitting on my balcony above the cliff looking at the sea or walking through the beautiful landscaped grounds to the open air lobby to watch the cliff divers was just perfect! Yes, the rooms are tired and the A/C was noisy but all it did was keep me from hearing the roar of the sea below my window. I could have thrown a small rock into the water from my room.

The Zocalo was a short walk down a steep hill. There were several good seafood restuarants to choose from. We chose Nacho's and would go back again.

Rafael, a guide from the hotel showed us around town and was well worth the expense. The only negative of our trip was in the markets, the merchants are too agresive!!

I booked my room on line and was very satisfied with the price. If I would have paid full fare, well, maybe I would have second thoughts.
