We booked here and paid a deposit based on the reviews in Tripadvisor. We were expecting cheap and cheerful, and we're used to sacrificing comfort for value, but this hotel was beyond tolerable. The first rooms we were shown had a thick layer of dust on the floor and furnishings, not from being left uncleaned from the previous occupiers, but simply from not having been occupied for a very very long time. These rooms were at the back of the property. We were then shown rooms at the front which were a little better, but the air-con was old and made an unacceptable noise, nobody could sleep with those on, and the rooms were poorly furnished and the bathrooms very shabby. We saw three rooms at the front in total and none was acceptable.
The whole pace gave off an air of being left to rot, and I saw no evidence that anyone had stayed there for a long time previously. As we'd already paid our deposit we tried to tough it out, but it was our first holiday for a long time and I just don't see the point of enduring where you stay rather than enjoying it.
After a few hours I walked down to the local Oxxo and found a couple of room touts offering cheap room in adjacent hotels. I then walked to one of the hotels to check that their prices were legit and there was nothing shady about it, they confirmed it was OK and the prices really were good (80 dollar rooms for 45 dollars) so we left the Lindavista (didn't stay to ask for the deposit back, just put it down to the curse of Tripadvisor) and rebooked across the street for just a few dollars more per night. And while the other place was no Ritz, it was another world compared to the Lindavista.
My advice - check it out first, do not book ahead and do not pay a deposit, if you are absolutely broke it might work out but I'm sure there must be better at the budget end than this.
