10/14 to 10/21/2011 These facilities are well staffed, clean, friendly, however does not in my opinion qualify to be referred to as a resort. It resembles a converted hotel and the suites are simply a large hotel room. Mid 80's feel. AC in the window. Mini-Refer. Rooms and bedding cleaned daily. Pool bar was not operative however you could request a waiter from the adjacent restaurant to get food or drinks. Very quiet while we were there (saw less than a dozen peeps per day). The bottled water (mandatory in MX).......(speaking from experience...also remember some salads are washed with native water). Be sure to dine where the entire restaurant uses filtered water and stick with bottled wtr for drinking. Beach (1,000ft walk across the street) is nice...not spectacular...pretty sunsets. To really kick your vacation up a few notches, I recommend taking the shuttle (free 5min ride) to their parent "Mayan Palace" resort. This place is worthy to be called a resort (5-star....very nice pools, shops, activities and on the beach). Just steer clear of the time share vultures. A must is hooking up with a reputable taxi/tour operator. We used and highly recommend Roberto Alarcon (cell: 011-521-744-421-9608 email: robertoalrey@yahoo.com.mx ) This guy is fun and knowledgable and speaks fluent English and is extremely reasonable as far as costs. He sports a newer Suburban with AC and Tequila if you wish. He took us to a great local "FRESH" seafood restaurant on the beach and introduces the chef and you select your seafood (fresh fish have shiny eyes, fresh lobsters move). He will pick you up at the airport and you will not be dissapointed. He will get you to WalMart for bottled water, beer, groceries if desired (the Sea Garden is much more expensive). I immediately asked what he charges and he responded with "whatever you feel is fair and if for any reason you are not happy with my services there will be no charge!" (my kind of guy). Roberto made our trip....very knowledgable tour guide and prompt taxi service. This "Gold Zone" area was a little lacking in maintenance....you could tell tourism and the economy was affecting the area. There were few people at the Mall (1 mi S)....so we always got good service and free Wi-Fi at Starbucks. The Sea garden wanted $70/week for wi-fi!.....For much better shopping and dining go with Roberto (he is well connected and everything is within 15 to 25min).At no time did we feel there was any danger traveling in and around Acapulco.......Media likes to hype the Drama.........we never felt uncomfortable....yes Federales and local Police are visible, but Mex has always been that way.........
