This hotel is very popular with Mexicans with young familities. I was the only American in the entire hotel......I soon figured out that there was a reason why this is! I was fortunate to meet a jolly group of Canadians which assisted me pass the time on this "compound". The hotel is built on the side of a vertical cliff so one must be in great shape in order to climb up and down the steep slopes. Fortunately at 59 I am in good shape, but even the elevators and "cablecar" required numerous steps to access. There is NO concierge and the front desk is not helpful at all regarding any information OUTSIDE of the hotel. I asked for a map of the surrounding area and no one in the hotel could provide one. Finally walked to the town my self on the side of a highway with cars whizzing past at 70 mph as I felt very claustrophobic in this place. Once you are there, you are pretty well stuck there on the compound as it is not easy to get out. The bed in my room was a board with a mattress on it so even to watch the news I resorted to utilizing the plastic lawn chair on the balcony since the bed was so incredibly uncomfortable. Fortunately, I met another man on the beach (from Canada) who was able to tell me how to get to La Quebrada in order to see the Cliff Divers. The hotel front desk could not (or would not) impart any information on how to do this but did list the times at 1:30 (fortunately, the man on the beach from Canada giving me the information corrected it by telling me it was 1:00 PM and it's a good thing since it was all over at 1:15). I could not get any assistance in contacting Aeromexico, instead they told me I could utilize a pay phone in the lobby but then I found it was broken and they said I could use a house phone that the operator would connect me. Reservations were required for La Trattorria (Italian Restaurant) so the first two days I trudged up the hill at noon (since this was the only time you could MAKE reservations and they had to be conducted in PERSON), only to find that the person that evening seating people had no inkling as to who did or did not have a reservation. The final straw was the last night, I had left a wake up call for 4:00 AM (since my flight was 6:30 and Aeromexico would never let me do online 24 hour check in I needed to make sure and get there by 5:00 AM and it takes a good 40 minutes to get to the airport from the hotel). I suspected they wouldn't call me, so at dinner that night, I asked the Maitre D' of La Tratorria to phone up to the front desk and make SURE that they had the 4:00 AM wake up call. He confirmed all was well. Fortunately for me I woke at 3:41 AM and began packing. It's a good thing because the wake up call never came! Would not recommend this hotel unless you are the type that enjoy the "Ryan's Steakhouse All you Can Eat" Buffet!

This place is amazing......Beautiful hotel on private, beautiful beach......great food and service

We are a group of 3 sisters (33, 35, 35) who traveled to this resort in March. We got an exceptional deal $580 including tax but most people we met paid more like $750 to $950. We were more then happy considering what we paid. Since there are so many reviews I will try to be brief.

SUNWING:
We were happy with the flight and the reps were ok. Our only real complaint is that we had a late flight coming back and were cut off from all the hotel’s services at noon. There were over 50 people in the group and people were not told that they would be cut off until it was too late. A friend we met on this trip hadn't eaten all morning (she is pregnant) the hotel said, too bad, another family we met wanted to get food for their 10 year old son--nope! Both of these people were offered to buy the food package for the rest of the day at a cost of something like $25.
Lastly the hotel is listed as having nightly entertainment but they only had entertainment on a couple of the nights.

FOOD:
This hotel is advertised as 4.5 star--but it is not, especially in the food category. Breakfast was excellent and the a la carte was pretty good. The buffet was very poor. The system for signing up for the a la carte (show up at noon to sign up for that night) was strange and it may change, so my suggestion would be to find out early (what the current system is ) and book there as often as you can.

BEACH:
I had read reviews about how small the beach is but I thought some people exaggerate.....not so! :) The beach is very small. I will attach pictures to show how small! You could walk the entire length and back in less then 1 minute. The sand and water, however, was not too bad. They also had kayaks and beach volleyball both of which we took part in.

LOCATION:
Ok, many said the location is terrible, we didn't find it that way. It is true that it is a bit out of town but you can easily (if you are reasonably fit) walk into town. We did so almost every day--approximately 35 minutes downhill to Walmart (uphill coming back)--add another 5 minutes to get to the main stretch of beach and the start of the hotel zone. Also you could simply walk to end of the road (maybe 10-15 minute walk) and take the bus for less then a buck. One night we were out to where the bars are and took a cab back because it was so late at night) and it cost us less then $5 to get back.

HOTEL:
We liked this hotel. It was very clean and had beautiful sweeping views of the bay. It did get very busy on the weekends but if you used the deck above the restaurant you would find lots of free chairs. The hotel is not for the faint at heart—the hills are steep and there are a lot of stairs!
We found the service to be a hit and miss situation. Our room cleaner was excellent everyday but we found that the service staff varied quite a bit. Towards the end of the trip we figured out which sections to avoid and which servers to try to get.

WIFI:
There was free WIFI in the lobby and if you had the code you could have free WIFI in your room too. I also found at the pool there were lots of open sources of internet you could tap into.

GYM:
The gym cost $5 to use. It looked nice but we didn’t use it.


We had a great time at this hotel but I think it was mostly due to the fantastic people we met. We had 2 bus loads of people from our plane so there were tons of Canadians.

We had a fantastic time at this authentic resort. We were a bit concerned at first that there would be a language barrier with the staff, biut soon learned that would not be an issue. Very clean authentic Acapulco Bay location in a very secure area. Fantastic views, private beach, and very family friendly.

We also lucked out and located a great cab driver through a refferal. Mayan Resorts Yellow Cab is owned by Cesar Olea Santos, and he was simply awesome. Spoke excellent english and had connections all over the city, so could easily set up excursions (e.g. golf, Cliff Divers, etc.). Ask him to take you to the Flamingo Hotel for lunch. Incredible views and a historic resort for many in old Hollywood.
