Normally, I don't bother writing reviews, but I decided to add my two cents this time.
The Ritz was a lovely older hotel. They had a small pool, which was very crowded on the weekend with Mexicans. We, canadians, where definitely the minority, which didn't bother us in the least.
There were 2 bars, one in the restaurant area and one close to the pool side. The drinks were served in very small plastic glasses. I would definitely bring my own travel mug the next time, not because I am a lush, but rather to limit the number of trips to the bar.
For the five days we were there, the food was good, but similiar food was served almost every day. What you had for supper, you could expect to see it again for breakfast, in a different form. The hotel was older, but clean and the staff was great to deal with.
The only thing I would complain about was the hardness of the mattress. I read about this in another review and hoped that this was not throughout the entire hotel, but unfortunately, we had a hard mattress too. For four nights it was manageable, but I couldn't do it any longer. If you have a bad back, don't even consider this hotel.
Unlike Cancun, you can expect to see vendors, at the beach, constantly. There is a little roped off beach area to relax, but the vendors come right up to the rope and harass you from there. I finally discovered that to avoid their sales approach, you pretend to be sleeping.
When we arrived at the airport, the gentleman there wanted to offer us a cab to the hotel for an expensive price. When we said we weren't interested, he offered us the hotel/airport shuttle. It was $20 american dollars for the two of us. Back to the airport, we got a cab from the hotel that was the same price. The shuttle took a little longer, time wise, than what a cab would, but was a good price.
If you want to use the internet, don't do this at the hotel, it is a bit costly. Instead we found a little shop down the street where we paid $1 for 1 hour. Apparently, these places are all around Acapulco.
There were 2 malls that we went to. The prices weren't too bad. A great deal of Acapulco is Americanized.
Be careful crossing the street. The drivers in this city are crazy!!
I recommend that you purchase a lock for the safe in your room. It is only a few extra dollars, but well worth the reassurance that your valuables are safe. If you lose your passport/i.d. you can be in big trouble and may have trouble getting home. My laptop didn't fit in the safe, so I locked it in my suitcase and put another suitcase on top.
Stay away from the yellow and white cabs, the safer ones are the blue and white ones. Also, do not, I repeat do not get into little bettle volkswagons or any other 2 door cab. Always look for the 4 door cabs. A huge percentage of robberies take place in the 2 door cabs-you have no way of getting out once you are in the back.
I hope you find this review helpful. Happy holidays!
