“We would definitely go again!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 March 2011

Normally I don't write reviews, but given the bad publicity Acapulco is receiving, I feel the need to comment. My husband and I travel yearly to the Caribbean and/or Mexico. This year, we stayed at the Acapulco Ritz the week of 02/21-02/28/11. The hotel was very nice - listed as a 4.5 star but I would say more of a 3.5 star. The quality of food was good, though after a week, it gets redundant. The service was great! The room was basic, but clean. The beach was beautiful but the water is very rough - a strong undertow - not for weak swimmers. Even though there have been many killings there lately, we did not feel unsafe at all. Just know your limits - travel in groups - and be smart. We went off the resort daily - to the market, to restaurants, to the casino, on side trips. I wouldn't recommend renting a car - the traffic is crazy! Cabs are very inexpensive. We would definitely go again - but we did miss the blue of the Caribbean - which you don't get here.

“nice stay but low curb appeal”

this was our first trip to acc the curb appeal of the Ritz was a shock after staying at other big name resorts in other mex hot spots ( we have been to about all of them ) the rooms were large and clean a little dated but everything worked. We stayed in the " new tower" had a room right next to the elevator but there was no noise problem . If you had a floor with a roudy late party group you would have had a noise problem being that it was a concrete and tile building . The grounds were clean. Go to the beach before breakfest and set out a couple of plastic chairs and your towels the umbrella guy will set up a couple of loungers and an umbrella for you tip him at the end of the week he is a good guy. Waters warm surf can be rough but not to bad. Beach venders... Had a ball with some of these guys and gals there good sports you can bargan your head off but keep in mind they are trying to make a buck in a very depressed market get your best price but slip them a extra buck or two they need it more than you do . the young girls with the un complaning todlers in tow always got a little help from us because it just felt good to help and they were very greatfull... back to the resort FOOD... marginal at best... breakfast ok lunch have a burger and chips and salsa dinner a JOKE we didnt starve but it wasnt good but walk out the front lobby and there are plenty of good cheap resturants on the street or beach SAFETY NO PROBLEM cop on every corner and 2 mid block we stayed in the strip or a block or two off and never looked over our shoulder...
We were glad we went had a new experence the people were friendly I

“Not the Days Inn, but satisfactory”

Normally, I don't bother writing reviews, but I decided to add my two cents this time.
The Ritz was a lovely older hotel. They had a small pool, which was very crowded on the weekend with Mexicans. We, canadians, where definitely the minority, which didn't bother us in the least.
There were 2 bars, one in the restaurant area and one close to the pool side. The drinks were served in very small plastic glasses. I would definitely bring my own travel mug the next time, not because I am a lush, but rather to limit the number of trips to the bar.
For the five days we were there, the food was good, but similiar food was served almost every day. What you had for supper, you could expect to see it again for breakfast, in a different form. The hotel was older, but clean and the staff was great to deal with.
The only thing I would complain about was the hardness of the mattress. I read about this in another review and hoped that this was not throughout the entire hotel, but unfortunately, we had a hard mattress too. For four nights it was manageable, but I couldn't do it any longer. If you have a bad back, don't even consider this hotel.
Unlike Cancun, you can expect to see vendors, at the beach, constantly. There is a little roped off beach area to relax, but the vendors come right up to the rope and harass you from there. I finally discovered that to avoid their sales approach, you pretend to be sleeping.
When we arrived at the airport, the gentleman there wanted to offer us a cab to the hotel for an expensive price. When we said we weren't interested, he offered us the hotel/airport shuttle. It was $20 american dollars for the two of us. Back to the airport, we got a cab from the hotel that was the same price. The shuttle took a little longer, time wise, than what a cab would, but was a good price.
If you want to use the internet, don't do this at the hotel, it is a bit costly. Instead we found a little shop down the street where we paid $1 for 1 hour. Apparently, these places are all around Acapulco.
There were 2 malls that we went to. The prices weren't too bad. A great deal of Acapulco is Americanized.
Be careful crossing the street. The drivers in this city are crazy!!
I recommend that you purchase a lock for the safe in your room. It is only a few extra dollars, but well worth the reassurance that your valuables are safe. If you lose your passport/i.d. you can be in big trouble and may have trouble getting home. My laptop didn't fit in the safe, so I locked it in my suitcase and put another suitcase on top.
Stay away from the yellow and white cabs, the safer ones are the blue and white ones. Also, do not, I repeat do not get into little bettle volkswagons or any other 2 door cab. Always look for the 4 door cabs. A huge percentage of robberies take place in the 2 door cabs-you have no way of getting out once you are in the back.
I hope you find this review helpful. Happy holidays!

“Acapulco is a must on anyones place to visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 March 2010

Acapulco from Mar 1 - 8, 2010 and stayed at The Ritz which is centrally located in the midst of everything from best beaches, fine dining, markets, convenience of any amenity to fit your needs. Acapulco has franchised restaurants such as McDonalds, Applebees, Hooters, Planet Hollywood, KFC, Hard Rock Cafe to name a few. Walmart is centrally located and also noticed a Sams Club and Costco, but was a bit out of reach to get to. The city is fast paced with 2 million people residing. The weather was beyond hot with no rain as the rain season is July and August. The heat was beyond scorching. The Ritz was okay with great service, staff there to accommodate every need, however, had no coffee pot or fridge in the room. The buffet food was okay and coming from someone who travels the caribbean only to usually eat mashed potatoes, is something to be said. They had a variety of food. The rooms were alright, not 5 star, but very clean and no bugs whatsoever. I had a bit of issue with the shower as it was sort of old, but was clean. We chartered a large boat for fishing and caught a 6ft sailfish, watched some whales and sea turtles and got to see the cliff divers all at once basically. What a thrill this was. I would recommend the Ritz to anyone who wants something other than the big resort type vacation where the only thing to do is sit on the beach or by the pool. I cannot comment on the nightlife, however, heard it was wild, but being the ripe old age of 43yrs, was in bed by 2100hrs nightly lol. The sun takes it all out of you. Acapulco, see you next year for a 14++ day holiday.

“Nice place stay and relax”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 February 2010

After taking 1 year off from Acapulco we returned to the Ritz this February. In total we have stayed at this hotel for approx. 10 weeks over several trips to ACA.
The staff is always welcoming. They treat guests like family and work to honor special requests.
The hotel's location is great. The hotel's beach area is small and can become filled if the hotel is at capacity. Throughout much of the travel season there is rarely a problem getting lounge chairs.
The food is about on par with other all inclusive resorts in ACA. They feature a variety of dishes but serves a majority of Mexican dishes. This can become a problem for picky eaters.
The hotel's main down fall is its age. Like most properties in ACA that are established it in need of updating. Small improvements have been recently like swipe card locks and flat sceen tvs, but the physical plant needs updating.
In all this property is a good value for the price. We booked air and hotel ala carte. The hotel rate for dble occ. was about $150 per night for 2 guests. $75 per person for lodging and all day of eating and bar service is highly affordable.
