“Spectacular Ocean View, Bad Beds”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 April 2006

We had a great ocen view room and it was spectacular. Overall, clean and the staff was friendly and courteous. Not all of the staff speaks English but there was a lady at the lobby who speaks pretty good English and was very patient in providing some tourist information. Also, there was a tour agent adjacent to the lobby area and the prices were reasonable. Right on the beach at the hotel next door, you can get parasailing, banana boat ride, SeaDoo. Be aware of the beds though. It is hard like rock and you can actually feel the coils in the matress.

“All Inclusive. . Not so All Inclusive”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 March 2006

We just arrived back from Calinda Beach. First off, the hotel is in a great location. Walking distance to a lot of things, and if you need to take a taxi we didn't pay more than $50 pesos (about $5). The service was excellent as well. . .very friendly and willing to help. The employees try to do their best to accomodate you. . but for a price (We always tipped additional and so I think it showed in the service we recieved). The view from the hotel is amazing. (Hopefully you are on the ocean side rather than the busy traffic filled street) but it's comforting to hear the ocean and see the view!

My boyfriend and I took part in the All-Inclusive deal that Calinda offers. Please do not be fooled. The all inclusive should be called "some-what inclusive." There is only two bars. The outside pool bar closes at 7pm. The bar in the lobby is open later, but they cut you off after 11pm if you are all inclusive. After 11pm you are required to pay for drinks. Drinks that are "all inclusive" are only certain drinks. Name brand alcohol, cranberry juice, etc. drinks are not included in the plan and require you to pay money. Room service is not included in the all inclusive. The mini bar in the room is also not included in the plan. As for food..There are two restaurants to choose from at this hotel. As for the "all inclusive" only one restaurant is open for each meal time. If you are all inclusive it only includes a buffet of about 5 different items. If you want anything else you pay you pay normal prices. It was quite dissapointing knowing that typically when you are paying ADDITIONAL to have and enjoy all inclusive, we did not recieve that treatment at all. After the second or third day we were tired of the same thing served on the buffet we went out of the hotel to eat "americanized food." Not because the mexican food was bad, it was good. . but no variety unless you wanted to pay an additional. Not even a discount for meals, you had to pay full price. I ordered room service of two tacos and paid $40 USD.
Just a pre-warning. . think twice about the "All Inclusive"

As for the ammenities in the room. . .there is no iron and ironing board that they claim. You have to request it everytime you use it. No coffee for the coffee maker. Balconies are small but quaint. Claims two pools but when we were there. . only one pool looked descent to swim in. No one was on the third level pool.

Also. . .the elevators, yes very slow. Only two elevators were working (they only have three for 25 floors). They take a very long time, and are not air conditioned. The lines for check-in and check-out are extremely long. . typically only two people working the front desk.

As for Acapulco. . .A GREAT nightlife. I highly reccomend the PallAdium. It truly is one of the best nightclubs in the world. While the price can range from $30-$50 USD it is truly worth it!! Amazing! Nothing you will see at the States. I probably wouldn't come back to Calinda. . I've heard the other coast of Mexico is ALOT better.

“Minimum security prison”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 March 2006

A Minimum security prison is the best way to describe my experience at this hotel. I will start off by saying that the rooms, the pool bartenders, and the view from the balcony is what I enjoyed about the hotel. Everything else is a horrible experience. The biggest pet pieve is that you could not even bring a bottle of water into the hotel unless you purchased it at the hotel. I had a small bottle of water conficated because of this insane policy. And the people running the front desk are big jerks. I lost my credit card and they were completely unhelpful to me when attempting to contact my credit card company. They said they were too busy to deal with this. I had to go to Wal-mart to use the phones. Someone stole the beach towel I was provided by the hotel and they charged me $20 for a generic blue beach towel. The house keeping would not respect the do not disturb sign. The security even conficated food that I purchased at the hotel and said I needed to eat it on the beach. Overall this place has horrible customer service and I would have been willing to pay the extra money at a better place in order to be leaft alone to enjoy my vacation.

“OK place to stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 March 2006

My daughter and I stayed at The Calinda Beach in early Febraury. Although an e-mail acquaintance had called ahead for us and put in a request for an ocean/bay-view room and had been told we'd have one (thanks Zzzaaa), we had to do some "talking" at the front desk at check-in to get it. The room was clean and did have a bay view. As it was my daughter's first trip to Mexico, she was thrilled to have the view.

We loved the location - close to restaurants and a grocery store. We didn't take the all-inclusive option as we wanted to eat at some of the local spots. Food was great at the ones we tried! We did go to the grocery store and stocked up on some supplies for the room. When we got back to the hotel, front desk pointed out a sign that wasn't noticable at check-in stating that no "outside food/beverages" could be brought in. Although we were allowed to bring in our water, etc. that time, were told not to do so again. We just took a large beach bag to the store with us and didn't stop at the desk on our way in - no problems then.(I do have to wonder why it was OK for the Mexicans who came in for the weekend to walk right in with large coolers and bags of snacks but we got stopped!)

Although we stayed at the Calinda over a weekend, not many people were taking advantage of the music in the lobby. All in all, the hotel was OK but I think I'll try the Copacabana next time. It's right down the street so location is good and was about the same price. It seemed to have a bit more going on. We went on the city tour with some people from Minnesota who were staying there and they only had great things to say about it!
