I went with some friends for our graduation trip. We had had a long road trip so we wanted desperately to get in the pool.
We were given a suite in the 12th floor, which we though was rather nice, since those suites are big and have a balcony. Deception started when we met the elevators and they were CLOSED, not out of service but the hotel was unable to use them and it wasn't because of a failure, they weren't even closed by a building authority... NO. They were closed by a HEALTH institution. What can you expect?
For the record, the elevators only reach the 11th floor and you have to take the stairs to the 12th.
We were in a quite big group (70 something) and we all had to take the service elevator, along with the employees (not something against them). The problem was that each elevator only had capacity for about one employee and three people with their luggage. The friends I shared the room with, took the stairs.
When I finally arrived at the room, I wasn't deceived at all, because it was quite big and had a great balcony with an even greater view. Unfortunately, the room hadn't been vaccated, so when we arrived there was even male underwear hanging from a chair, a big bag filled with medicines (we imagine they were old people) and clothes still in the closet.
Two of my friends went to the lobby to complain, and instead of telling us to wait, they sent us to another room with an INCREDIBLE VIEW... to the hotel on the other side.
My friend had already changed into swimwear and slippers, and we proceeded downstairs to catch up on the new room. I don't know how my friend walked, he didn't slip, but he sliced a good chunk of skin from his fat toe with one of the steps. How bad can your stairs be if you can lose a finger if you so much as walk with slippers (don't even mention barefoot)?!
He was bleeding quite a lot, and we feared he might need stitches, so we went to the lobby so the hotel would do something about it. "Fortunately" it had medical services; unfortunately the doctor was nowhere to be seen, and ever since we arrived 'til we left, we didn't even get to see his shadow.
We, once again, went to the lobby since their hotel had caused the damage, and expected them to take responsibility for it, getting a round "NO" for an answer, which we didn't expect. We then told them it was OK, that there was no problem but we would call the Federal Consumers Attorney (PROFECO) so they could handle the situation. They reacted faster than lightning and hurried to get a nurse from a nearby hospital. Luckily they didn't charge for that; he didn't need stitches and all was 'well'.
Before the trip started, we were told that we would be able to drink anything from the bar, so that got us quite excited. Our surprise arose when we were told that "anything" was very limited and was restricted to certain hours. What's the point of having a bar in your hotel if you aren't using it?
The food in the restaurant wasn't even good. They have a buffet (or so-called buffet), and being next to the sea, the least thing you would expect in a buffet would be fish and seafood... If we ate fish the first day, that's sayin A LOT; supposedly they served squid salad that day, but I think they were smart enough to flee the place while they still could. Not even a tiny little shrimp in the menu for those three days.
That night we went to a nightclub and arrived late (or shouldn't 5:00 a.m. be early?) at the hotel, without restriction, and slept as much as we could. The next morning we got dressed and went to the dining room at 11:40. To our surprise, we were told that our group's breakfast was all-inclusive until 11:30 and that they threatened to cash us if we served, but we ate anyway and didn't receive any tickets for it, but the fact that they are so rigid with those kind of rules and they prefer not to lose current money, instead of pleasing the guests who had paid over 3 months before, and that they go as far as threatening you... Man, that's worrysome.
My advice? Don't even get as close as 100 meters from this place, except for the beach, which is the only good thing it has.
P.S. The card-keys to the room don't always work, so you whether have to insist or pay frequent visits to the lobby to get them changed.
