“Good hotel for the budget travelor”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 April 2011

I had read previous reviews that were not great so I was concerned upon arrival and have wrote my review with positive and negative attributes
Positive:
1)security at all times. Felt very safe at all times in hotel. No safe in room. But the hotel does have a safe if you require one.
2) The room was very clean
3) The hotel is right on the beach. A very prime location for the budget traveler
4) The staff is very friendly
Negative
1) Basic rooms. The beds are very hard but you do get used to it. If you request non-smoking they will say the rooms are non-smoking but smoking is allowed in hotel and you may be in a room that is next to a smoking room so the smoke will get in yours but its not that bad.
2) I may be a wimp but I did notice on two occasions a sewer-type smell coming from the bathroom. It was pretty gross and I thought about saying something but instead I poured a bunch of water down all four drains(sinks, tub, floor drain) and this eliminated the gross smell. I stayed in the hotel for three weeks and this only happened twice and the pouring of water in drains solved the problem.
3) I had a Costera room. That means not an ocean view. Which means my window did not open. I like fresh air but I soon realized having an open window on the main avenue would have been bad because of the fact that autos in Mexico do not face the challenge of the clean air act which means alot of nasty exhaust. So if you stay in the El President and like fresh air please stay in one of the beach side rooms so you can open your window. The nasty car exhaust smell is really bad! It was so awful that I could not imagine myself walking in the city it really made me sick the first day. But you actually get used to it and as a matter of fact they have marathons on that avenue. I witnessed one and could not believe it. Extremely athletic people running with all that exhaust. But after a few days you really don't smell it anymore. Once you get home though you really appreciate your home country's clean air acts. Its that bad!
4) No hot water. I was irritated at this at first but realized that hot water is not necessary in the paradise that is Acapulco. There were hot water taps that were shut down, turned off.
5)Not too irritated but the elevator was really slow. Sometimes it was quicker to take the stairs.
6)was kind of concerned about fire safety. No smoke detectors, fire sprinklers. I also noticed that if there was a fire and power was shut off that there would be no illumination pointing towards stairs area. Also, I noticed when I did take the stairs, one of the banisters was extremely loose and a heavy handed person may have taken it right off.
7)No depth markers on pool if one is concerned about that type of thing.

“Why does it still even exist?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2011

I went with some friends for our graduation trip. We had had a long road trip so we wanted desperately to get in the pool.

We were given a suite in the 12th floor, which we though was rather nice, since those suites are big and have a balcony. Deception started when we met the elevators and they were CLOSED, not out of service but the hotel was unable to use them and it wasn't because of a failure, they weren't even closed by a building authority... NO. They were closed by a HEALTH institution. What can you expect?

For the record, the elevators only reach the 11th floor and you have to take the stairs to the 12th.

We were in a quite big group (70 something) and we all had to take the service elevator, along with the employees (not something against them). The problem was that each elevator only had capacity for about one employee and three people with their luggage. The friends I shared the room with, took the stairs.

When I finally arrived at the room, I wasn't deceived at all, because it was quite big and had a great balcony with an even greater view. Unfortunately, the room hadn't been vaccated, so when we arrived there was even male underwear hanging from a chair, a big bag filled with medicines (we imagine they were old people) and clothes still in the closet.

Two of my friends went to the lobby to complain, and instead of telling us to wait, they sent us to another room with an INCREDIBLE VIEW... to the hotel on the other side.

My friend had already changed into swimwear and slippers, and we proceeded downstairs to catch up on the new room. I don't know how my friend walked, he didn't slip, but he sliced a good chunk of skin from his fat toe with one of the steps. How bad can your stairs be if you can lose a finger if you so much as walk with slippers (don't even mention barefoot)?!

He was bleeding quite a lot, and we feared he might need stitches, so we went to the lobby so the hotel would do something about it. "Fortunately" it had medical services; unfortunately the doctor was nowhere to be seen, and ever since we arrived 'til we left, we didn't even get to see his shadow.

We, once again, went to the lobby since their hotel had caused the damage, and expected them to take responsibility for it, getting a round "NO" for an answer, which we didn't expect. We then told them it was OK, that there was no problem but we would call the Federal Consumers Attorney (PROFECO) so they could handle the situation. They reacted faster than lightning and hurried to get a nurse from a nearby hospital. Luckily they didn't charge for that; he didn't need stitches and all was 'well'.

Before the trip started, we were told that we would be able to drink anything from the bar, so that got us quite excited. Our surprise arose when we were told that "anything" was very limited and was restricted to certain hours. What's the point of having a bar in your hotel if you aren't using it?

The food in the restaurant wasn't even good. They have a buffet (or so-called buffet), and being next to the sea, the least thing you would expect in a buffet would be fish and seafood... If we ate fish the first day, that's sayin A LOT; supposedly they served squid salad that day, but I think they were smart enough to flee the place while they still could. Not even a tiny little shrimp in the menu for those three days.

That night we went to a nightclub and arrived late (or shouldn't 5:00 a.m. be early?) at the hotel, without restriction, and slept as much as we could. The next morning we got dressed and went to the dining room at 11:40. To our surprise, we were told that our group's breakfast was all-inclusive until 11:30 and that they threatened to cash us if we served, but we ate anyway and didn't receive any tickets for it, but the fact that they are so rigid with those kind of rules and they prefer not to lose current money, instead of pleasing the guests who had paid over 3 months before, and that they go as far as threatening you... Man, that's worrysome.

My advice? Don't even get as close as 100 meters from this place, except for the beach, which is the only good thing it has.

P.S. The card-keys to the room don't always work, so you whether have to insist or pay frequent visits to the lobby to get them changed.

“A COMPLETE NIGHTMARE”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2011

This place was absolutely horrible. We went there b/c of a time share through RCI. We were to stay for 6 nights, but left after the 2nd night and that was only because my mother-in-law was not well enough to leave immediately after our arrival. The hand towel was filthy as was just everything else in the room. The so called air coditioning was non-existent. Overall, just a complete nightmare. I would never recommend this place to any one!

“you can't have it closer to the beach...”

I've been there twice and would choose again as it is located on the main street of Acapulco. You are in the middle of the trouble.
