“3 star hotel at best”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 May 2011

We stayed for 3 nights in February 2011 on the weekend where the finals for the Mexican Tennis Open were played. There were no many choices left in this side of Acapulco so we finally settled for the Fairmont Pierre Marques.
I must confess I was deeply disappointed by the hotel and makes me wonder what does it take for a hotel to have the Fairmont brand on it. This is not a luxury hotel at all. The room where we stayed had old furniture and appliances and it was in a poor condition. The elevator did not work for the 3 days we stayed there so we had to climb the stairs several times a day. A friend of us that stayed at the top floor did not have a nice experience in this regard.
We went to the beach once and no service was offered. After half an hour we went into the hotel to contact a waitress so we could get some food and beverages. At the end we decided we would be better served at the pool so we abandoned any idea of lying on the beach.
We had breakfast (buffet) and lunch at the pool several times. The food is barely OK. Nothing extraordinary.
Overall, do not be deceived by the Fairmont brand on this hotel. The Pierre Marques is a 3 star hotel at its best but it charges Fairmont prices.

“Very overpriced......... but excellent service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 April 2011

This is definitely not what you would expect of a Fairmont. Be very careful of their interpretation of a villa......... it is a very basic and small room in a motel type building. The room they were trying to pawn off on use faced a wall and was beside a very noisey public beach.

That being said, the manager offered us an ocean-side room which overlooked the beach for $50/night more. We were already paying around $400/night, however it should be noted that it was Santa Semana which is one of the busiest travel weeks in Mexico. We took it and were very happy with the view. The room was clean and spacious, but very dated and in dire need of a renovation. It was comparable to a three star hotel.

The fitness room had modern equipment and was good for doing cardio, but not much else.

The pool areas and beach are amazing. The resort is small, which is really nice since nothing is far away. There is a kids area with lots of space and kids stuff. Breakfast was good and so was room service. The 4 wheelers and jet-skis are really reasonably priced and lots of fun. There is also horse-back riding on the beach.

It is a good idea to rent a car at the airport. Our car from Hertz was just $20/day plus $30/day for insurance. It is a very good idea to buy their insurance and not rely on your credit card coverage.

The service by all the staff is amazing.

Room Tip: Be sure to get an ocean front room

“Rooms in very bad condition, understaffed hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 April 2011

Two years ago we had stayed at Fairmont Pierre Marques in a nice refurbished room and we wanted to go back. So last month we booked an Ocean View room for 5 nights, but this time we got a room in the "F" tower that should be a shame for Fairmont: the rooms are very old, it seems the only renovation they got in 30 years was to paint the doors&walls and change the curtains, the floor is so damaged it looks dirty all the time, bathroom is old, electric installation is totally obsolete and unsafe. We asked for a newer room but we were told we had to pay a 60USD upgrade to get a Deluxe room, we refused as we were not willing to pay any extra just to get a room in decent condition. We were offered other rooms in the same tower but all looked in same bad condition.

Also, it seems this hotel is always understaffed. Last time we stayed during a busy week so we understood the lack of staff. But this time the hotel was almost empty but they had cut most of the personal (only one multitask guy at reception, few waiters, nobody at towels desk, etc...) so we had to wait every time we needed something.

A big problem also, maybe due to the lack of staff, was the cleanliness of beach and pool areas: Fairmont has a beach zone reserved to the guests, but under each palapa we could find a lot of garbage from the previous guests that nobody cared to pick up, the beach zone wasn't cleaned daily neither. Waiters at the pool zone could leave the leftovers for hours so because of the wind plastic glasses, limes and cans ended up in the swimming pool, it was disgusting...

We love the hotel location, the fountains and gardens are beautiful, but we were truly disappointed by the rooms and service. We did not feel that we were staying at a luxury hotel at all.

“Outstanding hotel in a gorgeous location with great service, food and amenities.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 April 2011

We had an incredible time at The Fairmont Pierre Marques in Acapulco's Diamante Bay for a peaceful, week-long vacation. The weather was mid-to-high 80s every day and lows in high 60s to 70s every night. Spectacular! We reserved a Junior Suite, a corner room on the 2nd floor on the beach facing the ocean with a large balcony. Very comfortable, roomy and quiet. Every night we were lulled to sleep by the ocean waves which were huge and enjoyed by surfers every day. The three pools were all large enough for good lap swimming. We enjoyed the largest pool the most as it was a designated 'quiet area' meaning that the kids were at another pool. We were treated like royalty. Every person, whether it was a maid, a gardener or a waiter, was friendly, always greeting us with a warm smile. The sister hotel, The Princess is a five minute shuttle ride away or a 10 minute beach walk. You can enjoy both hotels' amenities. Between them there were 8 restaurants to enjoy. Almost all of the restaurants are open air facing the ocean so bring mosquito repellent for evenings. The beach, with white powdery sand is very clean and is very safe. Just say no to the walking vendors who approach you with beads, baskets or other souvenirs. We found it easiest not to bring a purse with us when walking on the beach. No purse, no money. Eventually they got the idea that we were not purchasing items and were there to relax. I highly recommend the Pierre Marques and hope to return soon.

Room Tip: Ask for the Junior Suite or ocean facing room.

“an atmosphere for relaxation provided by beauty”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 March 2011

The Pierre Marques is a lovely old grande hotel. Smaller in size than most. The vistas are magnificent. The main chef is from France, his work is sometimes brilliant (his grandmother's desert recipe)...he is excited by his post in Acapulco. Yes, the hotel is in need of refurbishing...but if you are in need of good food, great weather and a warm and dutiful staff by all means experience the Fairmont Pierre Marques. We really enjoyed this low key holiday.
