If you can gather a few friends so that everyone can chip in, Acapulco offers a number of spectacular villas which turn out to be much more reasonable than everyone getting hotel rooms. Our villa, the Villa del Arbol, or casa del arbol, was nothing short of spectacular. It was our first rental, done through the vacation rental site at Acapulco.com, so we were a bit leary at first. We shouldn't have been concerned. The rental agent was great, and the villa exceeded our expectations, even after two days in a suite at Las Brisas beforehand. Our villa was staffed with a houseman, cook, maid, and gardner/pool boy who offered the finest service and served up some of the best Mexican food I have ever had. We paid for the food, but asked virtually for anything we wanted. The houseman did the shopping and simply presented the receipts for the money we paid. By the end of the week, the food cost per person was an incredible $20 per person per day. (We bought our own liquor). The villa had four beautiful bedrooms with kingsize beds, and lovely Mexican tile bathrooms. Two large pools, one for sun, the other for shade. We had a cabana bar under a huge palapa, and the houseman made wonderful drinks. No worrying about grabbing lounges in the morning -- we had 18 to chose from -- and at least 6 places we could have our meals or snacks. The view over Acapulco bay was mezmerizing. For total privacy and the luxury of personal staff, you do miss out on the beach, pool, swim up bar scene, but we didn't miss it for a moment.
