“Return Visit to BEST WESTERN MADERO”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2010

Required by my employment I had to return to Monterrey this past week and tried the Madero Best Western again. The rates thru the internet were LOWER..around 40 USD and as I mentioned once before credit cards are getting risky in Mexican hotels as the numbers get written down and used to falsify purchases on the internet. The rooms were SPOTLESS and I intentionally asked for a room on the FOURTH floor to see if the previous writer was correct about the hot water issue. The water flow and temperature were FINE and my room ample-sized and spotless. They remembered me at the lobby and also in their small restaurant where a robust meal is about FOUR DOLLARS including dessert and a pitcher of fresh lemonade. The area is to be treated with MUCH CAUTION at all times along the avenue with all the drug cartel crisis going on but I was very wary and careful in all my walking and dealings. The hotel was great and the price even better! No complaints!

“VERY COMFORTABLE AND CONVENIENT”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2010

The location is rough after hours but as in all of Mexico one now needs to proceed with caution and use a good deal of common sense. They are very friendly at the desk and this is now the 4th time I have stayed with them within the past year. I would either pay CASH or pay thru the USA as there is much identity theft in the Mexican hotels now. Be warned!!!The rooms are of average size but clean and comfortable with an EXCELLENT mattress. The best I have ever seen in a room in Mexico. Cable TV is great and lots of hot water. This past trip I sampled a lunch downstairs and for 4.80 I had enough food for two people!!!! It was delicious. There is no elevator but there is free use of 2 computers on the first floor and cold purified water in the hallways on each floor. Not the Hilton but it is also not the price of a Hilton....very pleasant and more than adequate for a brief stopover.

“Pay US$5 more/night and go somewhere else!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2010

Bad experience. The hotel is in a shady commercial/industrial area in the Colonia Centro of Monterrey. It has 4 floors but no elevator. The single rooms are in the 4th floor, of course. As you can imagine, water pressure is low, and you have to flush the toilet twice sometimes.

The (single) room is *tiny*. Literally, the bed occupies about 60% of the room. There were spots of urine near the toilet and there was a weird yellow liquid in the shower. They had obviously not mopped it. Also, the sink was clogged.

They did not recognize my Internet reservation, though I had a confirmation number. They offered me a discounted price that was less than what I had found on the internet, but when I checked out, surprise! They told me they finally got my reservation and told me I had to pay the difference, although they had to cancel the reservation because they didn't get it when I first checked in. What the heck!

The most annoying thing was that they would turn off the AC every time I left, and sometimes while I was sleeping. I had to be calling them all the time to get the AC back on.

To be fair, the staff was very nice and responsive.

I would recommend to stay away from this hotel. It's totally worth paying a few more dollars to get a better place.

“IF AMERICAN, STAY AWAY”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2008

This was the worst hotel I every stay at in Monterrey.
1. The rooms are so very small, my bedroom at home was bigger than the room and bathroom put together.
2. The restroom tiny. I barely could squeeze myself too, you know. And when I flushed, it was broken. At least I knew how to fix. The sink was also broken, lean on it too much it could have fallen off and broke my foot.
3. None of the employees knew how to speak english, not even a little. The last Best Western I stayed at the person at the front desk spoke english.
4. THERE IS NO PARKING. NONE! Had to parked down the street at another Best Western.
I guest you get want you pay for. I WILL NEVER, EVER STAY HERE AGAIN. THIS HOTEL IS NOT MADE FOR AMERICANS.

“Good Value in Monterrey”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 March 2007

Actually, I probably would rate the hotel as 3 stars but due to the outstanding staff, they deserve a higher rating!
First, it is a small hotel and not far from the Monterrey bus terminal---not the most desirable location, especially at night. But great for a short visit.
The front desk staff was very helpful and responsive to every request , without delay. Be careful in choosing the location of your room since the hotel has no elevator is , though small, is spread over 4 floors. Single rooms are small but well furnished, well lighted and with beautiful newly done bathrooms.
One odd thing here, the central air is not individually controlled and cuts off anytime you leave the room. Problem is, it doesnt come back on when you return. I quickly found you need to call the front desk, ask them to turn it on and it is instantly on!
The small , bright restaurant, serves a free continental breakfast and also offers a wide variety of set price lunches at 50 pesos--a real bargain.
At the price, the hotel is a real find in Monterrey.
