“Don't risk it - Poor customer service & quality issues make it a gamble”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 May 2007

My wife and I checked in for a overnight stay on 5/2 and offer a frank assessment of the hotel. In summary,

1. Front desk management is not adept at solving routine issues
2. Don't expect anything more than a self service hotel
3. Elevator security system "turned off" thus allowing access to anyone off the street.

We arrived at the hotel at 7p on a Tuesday night and were subsequently offered no help with our luggage although the front desk had no less than four people standing around. We are not at all high maintenance people and were not expecting much from a "Express"-type chain, nonetheless, our presence was not acknowledged until we approached the counter to check in. Again, not expecting 4 or even 3 star treatment but the set up is completely self serve to the point that it more resembles a cafeteria than a hotel that claims to cater to business travelers.

Shortly after being assigned to a room on the 5th floor, we found out that the air conditioner unit needed to be replaced (per building engineer's assessment) and were assigned a room two doors down. It turned out that the new room had the same problem and instead of immediately moving us to a another new room, the front desk clerk promised the problem would be remedied if we just gave engineering 20 minutes to replace the unit. Well 20 minutes later, the air conditioner was still in the same condition as before. The front desk clerk, while apologizing said that she really couldn't do anything and that it would take 10-15 minutes to even figure out if they had a room to move us to. Furthermore, she implied that the air conditioners here are just very loud and that it really wasn't her problem.

The result: it wasn't worth arguing and we decided to stick it out in the room but to share our experience at this hotel so other people wouldn't have to deal with these same frustrations.

Two other comments:
1. Paper thin walls
2. Elevator had the security system "turned off": Normally required a valid key inserted to authorize a floor button to be pushed but no security in the elevator. Pretty scary that it allows access to anyone.

“Nice business hotel”

This is a great hotel if you are in Monterrey for a business trip or a shopping trip.

The rooms are nice, medium size but comfortable. The restaurant that serves the hotel is the Sierra Madre Brew., is ok but not a upscale restaurant, something more like a chilli's.

The breakfast buffetInside the hotel) is very good, totally mexican, northern mexican style.

There is a small swimming pool, doesnt look very clean.

there is a shopping mall across the street, the name is gallerias Monterrey, there is a special bridge from the hotel to the mall, that is cool.

The hotel is not in the city center or near the upscale area, but is in a good location, anyway, you need a car or a taxi, you can't walk from there.

There are a LOT of students going to conventions, I think the hotel have this agreement with schools, so ask for the top floors without students.

“Worth a stay”

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights last year when we visited Monterrey for my Neice's 15th Birthday bash.
We found most things pretty good. Brief summary as follows........
Front desk - poor. They were not very friendly or helpful
Room - pretty good. Had suite on 11th floor.
Restaurant - basic but very good Mexican food. I loved the "hot" breakfasts.
Cleanliness - OK
Noise - good. So high up, could only hear the planes!
Shops - pretty good, shopping mall opposite where you can get most things.
Others.........
Lifts - annoying as they were never there when you were!!!!
Fellow guests - lots of Americans, often a disadvantage!
Car Park - good
So, if you like Americans and put up with stroppy staff, ths is a good choice. I would happily stay there again with some ear plugs!

“Very nice and clean hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2006

I stayed here for 2 days while touring several parts of Mexico. This hotel is very clean. The rooms were nice. You had to have a room key to use the elevators and to get into the swimming pool, etc. The hotel is right across the street from the Galerias Monterrey mall---take the skywalk. I thought everything about this hotel was safe including the area. If you want to tour Monterrey, have the front desk call you a taxi and rent the driver by the hour ($13-$15 per hour rate). The buffet was nice and free.

“Great Business Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 July 2006

Overall the hotel was pleasantly nice, new and clean. Hotel room had refrigerator, microwave and in-room safe. Pleasant staff. Free breakfast. Television was majority of Spanish language television (below average compared to other hotels in the area). Train track is near the hotel (behind the Galleria). You will hear some distant train sounds during your stay. Probably not loud enough to wake you once you are asleep. Galleria (normal mall by US standards)is across the street and connected by a gated foot bridge for the hotel residents only. Nice restaurants by the hotel (next door - Sierra Madre Brewing Company; across the street - Los Generales (buffet) and food in the mall). All food is very reasonably priced. I believe the hotel has program to get free night after 7 stays. All things considered, a very nice hotel. The positives easily outshine the negatives.
