My partner and I rented a two bedroom cabin so that my mom, dad, sister and her husband come stay with us for a family visit. The journey up to the hotel was quite long, so a taxi ride from downtown Monterrey will be about 150 pesos. Marcelo at the reception was not very helpful but luckily there was someone else whose name I forget(good example that you mostly remember bad customer service experiences) and he was very helpful and made us feel very welcome. At times the whole check in process felt very unoficial and complicated, they asked for our information all over again and there was nobody to take us to our cabin, it was still a five minute walk from the lobby area.
The cabin itself was ok, no view and there was a construction crew a couple of cabins down the road making a lot of noise.
The bedrooms and bathrooms were nice, clean and big. The lounge was really dark, there were three huge windows but two of them had unusable blinds, about 30 minutes from the time we checked in, the nice guy at the reception came to see how we were doing and we asked him about the blinds, he just said they did not work. There were only two glasses at the cabin, so we had to ask for more. It took them almost 1 hour to bring them to the cabin.
There was a nice big table and a mini fridge which was a bit strange as outside food is not permitted on the hotel grounds and since we had no car to go down to the city we had no option but to eat at the restaurant. The food was good, for the most part the service was also good. We had a couple of attendants who were a bit forgetful and not very friendly.
On the nature aspect, it is a wonderul spot, my partner and I enjoy wildlife viewing, so this is an awesome spot for that.
On the second day I wanted to treat my mom and sister to a spa treatment and phoned the front desk, no answer, after three times trying I decided to walk to the lobby and Marcelo was there, again not very helpful, he just said he did not know anything about the spa and that If I wanted information I should go "around the corner and ask them directly".
When we checked out we asked the front desk agent if he could get us a taxi, little did we know that they were taxis piratas, with no oficial taxi plates and they wanted to charge 500 pesos just to take us downtown which is a big jump from the 150 pesos we were charged by the taxi on the way up, we had to go with this option as it was already late and we really needed to head back down to the city.
We paid about 4500 pesos for two nights and for what they charge I would expect the service to be more professional and for them to keep the place in good conditions but I would still stay there for the location.
