“8 days in Monterrey”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2008

My son and I came to a sporting event in Monterrey and researched the hotels using Trip Advisor.

We decided on Howard Johnson Plaza booking an executive room costing around $100 per night including taxes. Hotel has a 24 hour check in which was great for us as we checked in at 2am arriving from the airport. A buffet style Breakfast is included in your room rate and is really quite good. They have parking on site and their own taxi; however use of this is extra. Hotel serves dinner and lunch at reasonable prices and is well used by locals.

The location of this hotel is a big plus. It’s in the centre of downtown near the shopping and the Macro Plaza. It is an easy walk to the museums, cathedral and plaza.

We had room 815. Odd number floors are smoking floors and even are non smoking. The room is a corner room overlooking the Macro plaza on the mountains behind it. The executive room is larger than the standard and has a good amount of space. Furniture is a little tired but perfectly acceptable. Room came with the usual stuff, tv, air conditioner that really worked, desk, sink and a coffee maker, however no milk.

Executive room has 2 double beds which were very comfortable and a large shower with excellent pressure. Quality of water is good however the hotel provides 2 bottles of water each day for occupants use.

Hotel has a gym, small heated pool and spa on level 5. Gym opens at 6am and closes at 10pm. Towels are provided in the pool area. One washing machine and dryer are located near pool. To use you need a token that is purchased for 10 pesos from the vending machine.

Staff has been very helpful. They speak English well and have assist me with everything I have needed.

Overall the hotel has been value for money, well located and comfortable.

I hang my hat at Marco Plaza Howard Johnson. A great place for family, buisness and pleasure. The staff are excellent and the facilities are outstanding. I travel to Monterrey every 5-6 months and stay with my friends at the Howard Johnson Marco Plaza. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. “HOJO MacropLaza- Good for Some, Not all..”

I have stayed here many times. Usually a great rate, however the rooms are all over the quality map. Some are new, some very old. I like the old suites, in desperate need of an upgrade, but big and comfortable for about 100/night. Good suites are 208, 209; bad- 212.
The excellent breakfast is NO LONGER FREE; parking still is.

“HOJO really let me down !!!!!”

I stay in Motels about two months a year on business and about another month on the Dog Show Circuit, After calling and making reservations and checking that pets were allowed, when I arived, was told that pets were not allowed, this after finding that the location advertised, on several locations on the web that Pets were allowed, I have allways enjoyed staying at HOJO, and felt that they were a company that I could depend and count on, And when I was in a Strange Land and really was depending on them they let me down, I do know this next time when i do make reservations for buisness or pleasure, HOJO will be at the bottom of the list, and i will verbally tell all friends and business aquaintence of my sad experience in Mexico, and with Howard Johnsons

“Deluxe accommodations!”

The Howard Johnson Monterrey is by far the nicest HoJo I've seen. The rooms are large and clean, the staff courteous and efficient, and the price impossible to beat. For approximately US$60 a night, you get a great room in a terrific location with a substantial breakfast included. The hotel also offers Internet access (the first 15 minutes are complimentary) in the lobby. Our room had a mini-fridge as well as a microwave, and a handy safe for storing valuables. Highly recommended!
