“Good hotel in Monterrey”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2007

I have stayed 3 times at this hotel , and to be fair with them, if the second weren't been bad ... I should grade them like excellent.

The rooms are spacious, with bathtub, nice bed, air conditioner (very important in Monterrey), total privacy, nice lobby and reasonable good food. The hotel is beautty at the end of the day, and they give you a welcome with a couple of big apples wrapped in you room and a letter of the director.

I strongly recommend you to ask when booking to have a room in the Tower Area instead of the pool, for more privacy and walking a little bit less. The rooms are almost equal in both cases (I have stayed in pool and tower).

The problem: In my second stay, I tried to make a phone call in the room, and they never fixed in a 4 days stay, so I was unable to make or receive phone calls, even when I asked in the front desk 4 times to have it fixed.

As a cosequence, I dated a person I needed to hire for make some surveys in the streets. Since I was unable to receive calls, the guy insisted on comming to my room, and the security personal was unpleasant to him, and escorted them untill the door of my room, where they rudelly tell me I was unable to receive in room visits, and even when I explained the telephone problem, they ask me to receive my visitor in the lobby in 2 minutes at most like if this guy where a thief or an escort.

Cross your fingers and expect not to have your telephone line broken, and you will have a very nice stay in this hotel, and don't forget to choose the tower section, even when it is slightly more expensive, it worth it, if you can pay it.

“Your friends are not allowed to visit you at Safi!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2007

This is my second stay at Safi and I really enjoy the staff of the hotel. Everybody is pleasant and go out of their ways to assist you. The majority of the staff speaks English. The rooms are spacious and the inner yard is relaxing to look at. The hotel is minutes away (by taxi) from the Macroplaza (with the museums) and Barrio Antiguo nightlife district (not active Mon-Wed). The lobby restaurant serves impressive buffet meals with beautiful looking desserts (~$15). The rooms offer high-speed cable internet for a one-time unlimited usage fee (~$10). There is a convenience store (OXXO) a half a block away (south), a pharmacy, and various eateries within walking distance (explore a bit). H.E.B. supermarket is 10 min away by taxi, and a large shopping mall (Liverpool) with Wal-Mart and Costco are about 15 min away ($4-6 by taxi).

My only concern came with the strict "no visitation" policy of the hotel. None of your friends will be allowed to visit you in your room, the only alternatives suggested were to gather in the lobby bar or restaurant, none of which could substitute the ambiance and the relaxed atmosphere of your own room (with your own food and drinks). There was not even an option of them registering with their IDs at the front desk and proceeding (like other hotels). After my reasoning attempts with the management proved to be futile, I moved out to conclude my vacation stay in Monterrey at a hotel a few blocks away (Fiesta Americana and Holiday Inn both have very friendly visitation policies).

“Perfect in Every Way :)”

I stayed at the Safi Hotel Dec. 26-30th and it was in every way an enjoyable stay. The staff were not just polite, they were overwhelmingly friendly and always greeted me with a smile. Though I only ate at the restaurant once and ordered room service once, the service was A+ and the food was pretty good. I stayed in a suite with a king size bed for $85 and the actual room, bathroom and closet were very spacious and clean.

Another plus about the hotel is the close proximity to downtown features. Overall, this hotel will exceed any expectations you would have for a pleasant and relaxing vacation or business trip. There was never any concern in regards to security either. I left my laptop, camera and rings out in the open and all articles were just as I left them upon my return. Stay at the Safi with all confidence, I know I will be staying here again on my next Monterrey trip!

“A Return to My Favorite”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2006

I recently returned to the Safi after several months absence--I have stayed here at least twice a month on business for many years.
I was not disappointed. The Safi family and their staff were wonderful, as always. Many times I avoid hotel restaurants but not this one--very good food with attentive service.
I am always impressed by the level of personal service. On a trip prior to this one, I wrote a note of complaint regarding a fax that was not delivered promptly. Upon my return to the office, I had a phone call from Mr. Safi, apologizing and assuring me he had spoken to his staff. I have no doubt about that!
You won't go wrong here!
