“Only place I would stay in Mexico”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2007

I have been going to Mexico for the last 18 years and have stayed at the Hotel Colonial all but one time. The rooms are always clean, employees friendly, grounds and pools(2 standard and one wading) are kept very clean and the whole compound is very secure. The rooms were remodeled about 5 years ago, with new bathrooms and furniture. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in Juarez and not sure of where to stay.

“It's OK”

Not such a spectacular place. It was clean, modern, secure. The pool was nice, clean, kid friendly. Breakfast bar was standard.
Why put up with a snooty desk clerk? They never did explain where the door bell was to the front security gate to the street. I had to learn about it through observation while waiting for taxi.
Upon arrival I notice no iron in the room ( common). What is not common, no offer of assistance, nor did I get use of one until third night into my four day trip, ( with an insistence that i use and return it quickly).
No restaurant or bar on the premises. Sometimes after a long day at work a sandwich and a beer is just fine.
There are other hotels in the area just as nice, with a few more amenities. I doubt if i will return, or recommend Hotel Colonial for business travel.

“LOVED IT!!”

This hotel is GREAT! A friend of mine told us to stay there when we went to Juarez for business at the consulate, and we ABSOLUTELY loved it! We stayed for 4 nights.. The front desk staff was great, a little snooty, but I like that... :) The breakfast was free, there were always plenty of newspapers, in english and spanish, to read. The pools weren't heated, but that is pretty common in Mexico, the sun usually does the trick. The pools are BEAUTIFUL! The room was very clean and everything from the front desk to the room to the pool was very modern and beautiful! I would say, spend the extra money to stay here, it was gated in, and the guards are very good about keeping things safe and guarded, which could be a problem in this town!! :) I wanted to write a review because this hotel is amazing, and I didn't think that people were as excited about it as they should be.. the pics of the hotel didn't do justice either, it's beautiful.. maybe I still have some pics that I could upload.. STAY HERE!

“Good for Consulate Business”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 April 2007

We selected this hotel based upon the reviews stating it was good for conducting business at the American Consulate. For this purpose, it was excellent. As indicated by others, it was convenient to the consulate, but away from the sidewalk scene. There was a convenient shuttle service in the morning to the consulate.

The hotel itself is very good. Not high-end, but very comfortable. The lobby is very modern and well designed. The staff was very hard-working and courteous. Internet service is available for wireless users. There is a single PC available to guests.

There is a mall and a large grocery store about half a mile down Avenida Abraham Lincoln. Across the street, there is a small grocery store. It is well stocked, however, the staff were curt. There is decent room service from the restaurant Viva Mexico which is across the street.

My only gripes were two. The neighborhood is pretty industrial. There's really no where to walk. We have infant twinsand getting about in a stroller was difficult and at times dangerous. (Crossing the street was a challenge.) Also, the shuttle service to the airport leaves very early, like 5 a.m., and we found this inconvenient. The airport is quite far away.

Overall, the place is a good value for those with business at the American Consulate.

  • Liked — Location near American consulate.
  • Disliked — Neighborhood is not interesting.

“A First Class Hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2007

We stayed 4 nights at the Colonial Hotel and we were very impressed. The front desk staff was very helpful and polite especially Hector who works the night shift. They were always there to call a taxi for us or help us find a place to eat. The hotel itself is in a good location. There is a superette right across the street where you can get a great fruit salad or buy a toiletry item you may have forgotten to bring. They are within a reasonable walking distance to the American Consulate or just a few minutes away by car. The hotel also offers a shuttle in the morning to the consulate or the airport. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The showers are hot and have goos water pressure The TV has programming in both English and Spanish so you will not have to miss your favorite shows. The grounds were also kept clean and they have 24 hour security service. They offer coffee 24 hours a day and a continental breakfast in the morning and yes the coffee was always fresh. They also had a computer available with high speed internet access. They only had one computer available for guest use so sometimes there was a wait to use it. This was ok though as they do not charge anything to use the internet. There were a few things I wished for. The hotel has two beautiful pools but they are unheated. There were no ashtrays outside (I dont like to smoke in the room). There were no hairdryers in the room. Other then that the hotel is perfect and we really enjoyed our stay. I highly recommend this place. We saw some of the other hotels in Juarez and were glad we picked this one. Thanks to the great staff at Colonial Hotel for making our stay in Juarez a pleasant one.
