“Best value in Chihuahua”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2009

Philippe and Lori provide very good accommodation and general support, including Internet, at extremely reasonable prices. Beds very comfortable, shared bathrooms very clean, plenty of hot water. And a whole wall film show every night!

Very close to the train station, easy for buses and taxis, also good local restaurants.

Just one word of caution - the owners were minded to move shortly after we visited.

“Felt at home”

I can only recommend this hostel! I was backpacking through Mexico and arrived late at night with the Chepe train.
The owners, a Mexican/French couple, were very friendly and welcoming and made me feel at home immediately.

I stayed in Chihuahua just one night and the staff was very helpful with advice what to do/see, where to go in town. They also checked the bus schedules for me so I didn't have to spend time running around, finding out about busses.

The hostel was suprisingly clean, actually I think it was the cleanest hostel I stayed in during my three week trip. If you go to Chihuahua, you've got to stay at Casa Chihuahua!

“Location, Location, Location”

This hostel is new and clean, and the best part is that it sits right across from the station that the Copper Canyon train leaves from at 6:00 a.m. in the morning! The second class train leaves an hour later, and it is every bit as good at half the price. There is a Pollo Feliz restaurant about two blocks to the east. The owner, Phillipe, and his lovely wife are very friendly and very interesting to talk to. The train returning from the east comes in at 10 or 11 p.m. if it is on time, so the hostel makes a lot of sense on the return run. There are two dorms and a private room available, and reservations are taken on line. Breakfast or coffee are available.

“The place in Chihuahua”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2006

In every respect a great place: friendly, safe, superclean, comfortable and superb location near train station, Pancho Villa museum and pleasant side of Chihuahua.

A special thanks after our 6 weeks trip to Mexico goes to the owner who gave very valuable tips what to see and where to stay. Some of these places were not obvious despite two excellent travel guid books.

“Absolutely loved it!”

"Casa Chihuahua" in Chihuahua city is located on Calle 22a & Mendez, opposite the ferrocarril train station (or "Chepe") where you take the Copper Canyon/La Barranca del Cobre train to Creel, El Divisadero & eventually Los Mochis.

It is run by a Frenchman called Phillipe and his Mexican wife, Lori who previously lived in Switzerland. They also have two gorgeous multilingual children. Lori speaks Spanish, English, French & Italian.

There are 2 share dorms, beds are MX$120 per night. There is also a twin room for MX$240 a night. There is also Maytag washer & dryer which you can use for MX$50. Breakfast is an additional MX$20. Beds are very comfortable & all linen and towels are provided. Bathroom standard is excellent - large private showers.

Movies are shown every night, projected onto a large wall in the communal dining-lounge area. There is a wide range of information regarding things to do and see in Chihuahua & Lori & Phillipe are extremely helpful!

The hostel is within walking distance to the centro historico and the HSBC bank where you can change your foreign currency & travellers cheques. There is also a supermarket nearby where you can purchase everything you could possibly need. Close by is also Pancho Villa's house and the Quinta Gamero.

At the time of writing Casa Chihuahua has only been open for 4 months.

I give it ten out of ten!

  • Liked — Friendly, comfortable atmosphere. A home away from home. Owners incredibly interesting people & extremely helpful!
  • Disliked — Poor internet access
  • Tips/Secrets — Don't stick to the Lonely Planet accommodation guide, try Casa Chihuahua!
