Me and my girlfriend stayed at La Fonda this pass weekend (12-16) and yes the place is old and rustic, but that is the beauty in it. It’s not a Hilton so if that is what you’re looking for this is not the place for you. It’s for the people looking for something different. So getting to the room (# 20) there are no key card it’s a key, something everyone is not used to. Walking in the room it is like old Mexico theme with a fireplace and the bed is looking at the ocean. The bathroom is something I would want in my home you step up into the bathroom big windows, a bathtub you step down into just beautiful. The view was something to die for. We may it there just in time to see the sunset then a walk on the beach collected some sand dollars, it was a little cold but nothing a jacket couldn’t fix. After that we went up to the restaurant for dinner. The menu is on a very unique again very old Mexico; waiter was very nice and made sure everything was just right. They have blankets on the back of your chair just in case it gets to cold. The food was very good. The steak needed to be cooked a little more and they had no problem doing so. After dinner we walk to the store not very far from the hotel to get some drinks and returned to the room. We took some wood with us just incase the wood there was wet from the rain but that wasn’t the case either so we got some from the hotel as well. We slept with the door open and with the fireplace on and it wasn’t cold at all. They do have a portable heater in the room in case it gets too cold, but that was not a problem. Its nice to go somewhere for a romantic weekend and be on your own there is not a lot of rooms around you and you are for the most part secluded except for the one room right under you witch no one was in. As far as BED BUGS there were no issues with this, the place is OLD but not dirty it was VERY CLEAN. We did have some mosquitos but nothing that bug spray wouldn’t help. You can tell that La Fonda take pride in the hotel. I don’t sleep much because I work night shift so I was up very early. Watch to sun come up on the water and once my girlfriend woke up we had a walk on the beach. We walked up to the restaurant for some breakfast but it wasn’t open yet once again not a big deal. A lady asked if we were waiting to eat and we said yes, she let us in even though they didn’t open for another 30 min. A waiter came and asked if we wanted coffee, we ordered a bloody Mary and a coffee and sat a looked out at the water till they were ready to take our order. We watch the dolphin in the ocean playing and the waiter said that they are always there. Breakfast was great, they have a great coconut syrup for there pancakes that is to die for.
All in all this place is for people looking for something different not your everyday hotel. Its one of Baja Mexico hidden jewels. No bed bugs, it’s not over price, maybe next time if you’re looking for a Hilton stay at one. I will stay here again with no hesitation.
Thank you La Fonda for a great weekend and see you soon again.
