“Loved Luna Hotel”

My husband and I spent three nights in Loreto in January 2012 and were so happy with our accommodations at Luna Hotel. Our stay got off to a rocky start when I left one of my suitcases in the shuttle van that dropped us off at Luna. Our host, Alberto, was so gracious -- he drove me to the airport to wait for the shuttle to return so I could fetch my suitcase. Our room was immaculate, very spacious and quiet. The bed was comfy, and the room included a luggage rack, closet area, shelves, TV, air conditioner, big shower and seating area. There's also a small side patio with a purified water dispenser. The location is great -- just a block from the malecon and walking distance to the plaza, lots of restaurants, shops and the big supermarket.

Alberto's got a bar upstairs -- the Eclipse -- which is sometimes open on weekends. The bar was wonderful and Alberto makes a FABULOUS margarita!

“Made us and our dog feel at home”

Alberto kindly welcomed us to stay with our pup in our room (we brought his own bed and blanket). The room was clean and comfortable (ooh down comforter for cold winter nights!), with a festive modern decor. There were also perks like a hair dryer, great wi-fi connection, and a lounge area in the room. We were traveling with surfboards and dive equipment, so Alberto graciously allowed us to park in his secure, private lot. Thank you, Alberto for a lovely stay! We'll be back next time we are in Loreto!

“Compact, clean, good value and well run”

Swiss born Alberto opened up Hotel Luna with his wife six years ago after deciding to settle in the area. The few rooms available are also accompanied by a small rooftop bar which Alberto opens each evening from 5:00pm. The stone walls gave our room a slightly cold feel and although extremely clean, constantly felt a little dark, despite the abundance of lights. The comfortable little sofa area opposite the bed was a nice touch though and overall we felt very settled there for the few days we were in town.

There's no breakfast included but Alberto recommends heading to the nearby La Lolita restaurant open from 7:00am, which we would also suggest. Not exactly authentic Mexican, but the French toast, raspberries and cream are great, as are the sandwiches if you're there for lunch.

Alberto also runs boat trips out to the nearby island to see the colony of sea lions and visit the secluded beaches for snorkelling and relaxing. It's a small boat though for a max of three passengers, so be prepared to be bounced around as we were if the ocean is a little choppy.

There are some very grand and expensive looking hotels in town, which don't exactly compliment the quaint, charming surroundings, so if you're looking for a friendly, no frills place to base yourself for a couple of days then Casa Luna offers just that. There's also a $50 peso per night discount if you decide you don't need your room cleaned.

“Home away from home”

Made our semi-annual trip to Loreto and always stay at the Hotel Luna. The three room hotel is very clean, spacious and quiet. The best part of all is visiting with the owners; Alberto and Karla. It is like spending time with family as they make you feel so at home. Alberto has a new boat and captains license and can take you out to the islands to see the wildlife. For the price, you cannot find a better skipper. Don't forget when you get in from your trip to visit the Eclipse Bar upstairs to enjoy the finest drinks available in Loreto.

“Great from start to finish”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

Not only are the 3 rooms incredibly comfortable, well thought-out, and done in great taste, the attention one receives when staying at Hotel Luna is second to none. From my first phone call inquiring about rooms to the extremely kind and helpful offer of dropping me off in La Paz some 4 hours away after my stay (because he had a meeting there the same day), Alberto and his wife Karla showed they take care of their guests like no other hotel could. Rooms are fully equipped, one of the best dive centers in Baja California is right next door, and the seaside Malecon is just a block away. Great effort has gone into Hotel Luna, and on top of running it with great attention, Alberto is also a really interesting guy to talk to about anything from marine conservation to Swiss identity and Mexican politics. One of those rare unforeseen places that really make your holiday.
