“great for budget/location, beware picky people”

You might mistake it's run down appearance for a flop house, but it is respectable. Parking on the street. Old towels and wrapped mini bars of soap are given upon checkin almost as a contractual confirmation of getting the room. Spartan quarters, but perfect for someone that won't be spending much time in the room. There are two prices, old and new. I didn't look at the old rooms, but am curious now as to how 'old' they can be to the new quarters i stayed in.
Wireless Internet works ok. Grounded outlets. Scary thin sheets. No TV in the room, but there is a TV in the reception area. This seems like a friendly and comfortable place to hang out.
I do worry about security. The door is a normal door knob that seems like it could easily be jimmied open. If i plan on leaving the room for any time, i will put my important items in my vehicle.
I would recommend this room to anyone looking for price and close to the Malecon.

“The Best Economy hotel in Mex”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2010

I have travelled through out Mex extensively for the past 25 years. If your looking for impersonable staff and swim to bars...this is not for you. If your looking for a friendly Mexican family orientated experience coupled with older Mex charm and the best budget hotel for the buck in all of Mex as far as I'm concerned....this is it. Yes some of the beds may be hard, and the water pressure may be low and it might even take a few minutes for hot water to appear {but always does} who cares..this is the Baja. It's supposed to be that way. I can't rave on enough about this place....only hope I didn't let out the best kept secret in all of Mexico.

“very nice people but the hardest beds ever!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2009

We stayed at the Lorimar for 6 nights. This hotel is very close to the malecon, rooms are clean and nice (if you stay in a new one!). The patio is nice, although when we were there, we were the only guests, so we didn't really meet many people! The staff was very helpful and always gave us good advice on day trips and places to eat. The hotel itself is simple, nothing fancy. We would recommend it if it wouldn't be for the horrible beds!!! They are as hard as the floor and after a day walking around La Paz, it is not fun to break a bone when you throw yourself on the bed. The air conditioning is super noisy, so if you can stand sleeping like this for more than two nights, then you're a fakeer. We stayed 6 nights, and we are really considering turning into hinduism :-) No, seriously, if you look for a relaxing vacation, then we recommend Posada Luna y Sol, much nicer and similar price. We discovered last night of our trip.. finally some sleep

“Very nice all around”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2007

Great location, English speaking front desk staff, info on all sorts of activities and services in La Paz are available for the guest. If you don't see what you want, just ask! Helpful and honest people there. We were there over the Nov. 20 holiday, and the laundry service close by was closed for two days. We asked the housekeeper and she kindly did our laundry for us, very reasonably and promptly. Our room was clean, and cleaned every day (we were there for three nights). Though we were in the room behind the lounge/tv area, we never had a problem with noise. The rooms are all set away from the street, so there is a quiet, peaceful feel to the place. For about $38 a night, a very good value. Close to the tourist malecon and also the local streets for shopping and eating the best fish tacos (Supertaqueria Hermanos Gonzales just two or so blocks away, you must try it) this place gives the visitor a nice blend of comfort with local feel. We slept fine on the beds, which were a foam pad on a wood frame.

  • Liked — Great location, clean, accomodating hosts/staff
  • Disliked — not much, really. It's Mexico, not sterile or regimented.

“Beds and bedding old and need replacing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2007

My wife and I stayed here one night in Jan. 2007. It had a great location near the bayfront and was only 38 dollars. The interior of the room and the shower were in good condition. The A/C was a wall unit and was new and worked well. We used it to drown out the loud talking coming from the lobby.

The only bad thing about the Lorimar were the beds. They were very old and the bedding was old. And we were in one of their "newer rooms" (which cost more). I would recommend staying somewhere else if you can but for one night it wasn't the end of the world for us.
