“Very nice all around”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2007

Great location, English speaking front desk staff, info on all sorts of activities and services in La Paz are available for the guest. If you don't see what you want, just ask! Helpful and honest people there. We were there over the Nov. 20 holiday, and the laundry service close by was closed for two days. We asked the housekeeper and she kindly did our laundry for us, very reasonably and promptly. Our room was clean, and cleaned every day (we were there for three nights). Though we were in the room behind the lounge/tv area, we never had a problem with noise. The rooms are all set away from the street, so there is a quiet, peaceful feel to the place. For about $38 a night, a very good value. Close to the tourist malecon and also the local streets for shopping and eating the best fish tacos (Supertaqueria Hermanos Gonzales just two or so blocks away, you must try it) this place gives the visitor a nice blend of comfort with local feel. We slept fine on the beds, which were a foam pad on a wood frame.

  • Liked — Great location, clean, accomodating hosts/staff
  • Disliked — not much, really. It's Mexico, not sterile or regimented.

“Beds and bedding old and need replacing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2007

My wife and I stayed here one night in Jan. 2007. It had a great location near the bayfront and was only 38 dollars. The interior of the room and the shower were in good condition. The A/C was a wall unit and was new and worked well. We used it to drown out the loud talking coming from the lobby.

The only bad thing about the Lorimar were the beds. They were very old and the bedding was old. And we were in one of their "newer rooms" (which cost more). I would recommend staying somewhere else if you can but for one night it wasn't the end of the world for us.

“Cheap but terrible beds”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 April 2006

We stayed for 3 nights at the Lorimar in la Paz. We took the 'new' rooms but there wasn't much new about them. The mattrasses were awfull, we actually ended up putting two mattrasses on one bed. And we are udget travelers so not very picky. The location was great. But when we came in there were mexicans watching soccer in the lobby and they were quite loud. One guy was sitting in that lobby for all days we were there watching tv. It made quite some noise so we asked to change rooms to have one more off the lobby.

The staff was nice and friendly so for that and the location you have great value but please check if the beds are okay when you choose a room.

“Super clean, great location, friendly staff and cheap !”

We have just returned from a week-end in Baja California Sur and we stayed 2 nights in the Hotel Lorimar in La Paz.
The hotel is located one block from the Malecon (Sea-front) and right next to all city activities : restaurants, shops, bars and night-clubs.
We paid $38 per night for an immaculate room, smelling fresh (as well as the towels and sheets AND bed-cover) with a brand new bathroom and air conditionning (mandatory in La Paz during summer). Street parking available.
Their is a little patio and decoration making the place agreable. Around 20 rooms.
The inconvenience is that you have to speak at least one sentence of spanish before calling to make a reservation (they only ask for your name, they trust you). At this time of the year we could as well have shown-up without booking. The staff is really really nice. Even if it takes you 15 minutes to ask a question, they will wait and be nice / try to help ! They can call for you and make reservation for a boat trip. They gave us a morning call by knocking on the door for our morning flight : very reliable, it was 6AM sharp !
You cannot ask for more, unless you like the impersonnal big resorts...

“Place Worked for Me!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 February 2005

I was in La Paz the first week of February, 2005, for two nights, three days. Lorimar Hotel is near the walkway on the bay and the shops, restaurants and activity in that area. It's within walking distance of all areas of La Paz. I had a small room that was clean and quiet. No view. I paid 240 pesos as I remember, which is only about $22. The staff is friendly, honest and informative. I checked in my valuables at the front desk. They were returned with no problems. I had a rental car, which I parked in front of the place on the street with no problem, except that when I was leaving town, I did a U-turn on that street, later finding it to be a one-way. (Watch out for those, as they are poorly marked in La Paz.) If you are alone, I highly recommend the hotel. I guess it can also work for couples. It certainly worked for me on this trip. One other resident told me that his tour book said that it was the ONLY recommended hotel in La Paz, it being so much better than the others at the price. Again, I liked the price, the feel, the location and the service connected with the place. I recommend it to others.
