“We stay here at least twice a year”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 June 2007

We seldom stay on weekends, so it is usually very quiet. Ensenada is never a destination for us, but we look forward to staying there whenever we pass through Ensenada. The hotel is central to the marina district where the shops and restaurants are. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The showers have good water pressure and flow. The parking lot is secure. We enjoy talking with the hotel staff who are nice, interesting people. We usually stay there after a long drive and it is our oasis of peace, quiet and relaxation.

“Missing Reservations/Unprofessional Desk Clerk”

We had credit card guaranteed reservations for two rooms and two nights at the Hotel Mission Santa Isabel--we thought...Since we were late in leaving Phoenix, I called and spoke with the manager on Saturday to explain that we were on our way and would be there between 8-9 pm. When we arrived they had no reservations, no rooms and a very dismissive and arrogant person on the desk. He shuffled some papers on the desk and all but ignored us, then glared at us at which point we turned and left the premises. He actually said that even though I had spoken with Juan Carlos personally twice, I had the wrong hotel and it was just a "coincidence" that the hotel manager's names were the same!
The Hotel Cortez saved the day (and night) and were very sympathetic and helpful.
We are building a home in Ensenada and are traveling there frequently and will continue to do so for the next year or so. We will warn others of the problems with Santa Isabel and recommend the Hotel Cortez highly.

“Very Enjoyable and Affordable”

We just spent the weekend in Ensenada, five of us, myself, husband, daugher, son and son's girlfriend. We did not have room reservations and had stopped at two other hotels of which we inspected the rooms and inquired about prices. We found the rooms, price and location of this Hotel to be very reasonable. We had two rooms one with a king size bed and one with two queen size beds. If you like Missions, the decor will suit you, it is very much like the old Missions a lot of bulky wood decor. This Hotel offers Swedish Massages of which my son and daughter took advantage of, they really enjoyed it ($20.00 for 20 to 30 minute massage head to toe). Swimming pool is open early and closes late, there's Bar & Lounge with "Live Music" and they have their own Breakfast Buffet which is very good too. We have stayed in numerous Hotels in Ensenada and found this one to be above average. Noise of traffic is one you have to deal with no matter where you stay in Ensenada but the comfort of the beds will put you to rest. Hospitality was super.

“Mision Impossible”

My husband's family and I just spent 4 nights at the Hotel Mision Santa Isabel. I had called in advance from the U.S. to request a suite/apartment that included a kitchen and living room, and the hotel receptionist confirmed that all of this would be included in a two-bedroom suite for a total of $560. Upon arrival they told us that our room would not be ready until the following night, even though we had made a reservation. We were put in two separate rooms with no kitchen, no living room. On the second night we moved into a promised apartment-like "suite," which turned out to have no kitchen and no living room, only two connected bedrooms. The shower drain was clogged, there was only one small mirror in the bath, none in the bedroom, the walls were damaged, the carpet old and dirty, and there weren't enough towels for our 6-adult party.
On the third night I complained about all of the above, especially about the fact that our room was not what had been discussed via telephone. They agreed to move us into another room, this one with only one bedroom (1 king 1 full bed), a living room, and a kitchen "area" with no stove or microwave. The new accommodation was an improvement in that the bathroom was much larger, there were two mirrors, and a living room for people to spread out; however, we were still unable to cook our meals as we had planned, the decor was outdated, and the furniture old and damaged. Upon check out, we were charged $620, but I was too tired and too stressed to even bother pointing out another error.
My husband's family and I visit Ensenada a couple of times per year. We will never stay in the Mision Santa Isabel again.

“Very Pleased”

My family of five stayed here for one night recently and enjoyed it quite a bit. I have stayed in a wide range of accomodations in Mexico and found this to be above average- while still being in about the two star catagory of American hotels. I thought the hotel grounds were pretty with a high level of charm and cleanliness. We got a two room suite facing the main avenue. Bring earplugs as a back up. The avenue gets pretty noisy. The location is excellent. There is a beautiful mexican handcrafts and furniture store across the street- worth walking down and seeing no matter where you are staying. We also ate at the resturant for breakfast. Very reasonable prices- the fruit platter was huge and delicious. All in all- no complaints. Hope your visit goes well too.
