“Potentially, this could be a lovely little hotel but...........”

The Palmetto has the potential to be a lovely little hotel, charming reception and hardworking room staff, nice, large, if a bit dated, rooms, great position, excellent swimming pool, but with only 9 sun beds could have been a bit awkward if hotel had been full, well established gardens and fantastic position on the bay.
But:
•The gardens were overgrown, the grass needed cutting and when gardening was done the grass, branches etc were left for several days to rot on the paths and in the garden area.
•There were always bags of rubbish left around the grounds.
•The bar was shut by 9pm and had no vodka, tonic or wine
•The management was negligible
•The Turkish bath and massage area was no longer functioning and hadn’t been for some time
•One end of the grounds looked like it had been abandoned and all the unwanted garden furniture had been dumped there.
•No mini bar
•The steps into the sea from the floating platform were ALL covered in slime from being in the water, a potential health and safety nightmare.
•The bar staff, although on site, were often hard to find.
•At the front of the restaurant there were several empty, dusty display cabinets which looked most uninviting.

Room Tip: If you travel with Anatolian Sky you will be placed in a room at the back of the hotel overlooking t...

Thank you for your review and for bringing issues regarding our hotel to our attention.Whilst I am pleased that you recognise the excellent location, our helpful and friendly staff, the attractive pool and so on, I wanted to respond on some of the points you have made.

You travelled late in the season when very few guests were staying at the hotel. Hence the number of sun beds at the pool, the bar opening times, the fact that the Turkish bath was closed are all due to the very low numbers at the hotel.

Our position, in tne centre of Selimiye meant that other bars and restaurants are always close by.
As regards the minibar, the rooms are equipped with a refrigerator and our policy is to leave it to our guests to buy what they wish. We therefore do not pre fill the refrigerator. We also offer room service and this is 24 hours a day.

We have noted your other comments which we have acted upon, always trying ensure that we react when matters are brought to out attention. We hope to welcome you back at Palmetto resort in the future and feel confident your next review will be most complimentary.

“Very average, old hotel living on its past glories”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2011 via mobile

A medium resort, that has seen better days. Oldish deco, average bathroom (with dripping basin). Pool in the shadows quite soon in the afternoon, which may suit you, or not.
Good breakfast buffet, apart from the drinks (nescafé for coffee).
Absent staff.
In a word, much too expensive for the quality offered.

Thanks for your feedback. For info, the hotel is only 11 years old and I can advise that all rooms will be renovated over the winter, including complete renewal of bathrooms, re decoration throughout plus new flooring, curtains and so on.
Whilst I note your favourable comment about our breakfast buffet, this will be further enhanced next summer and we will have filter coffee as well as instant.
General feedback we have on prices is that we offer good value, though we cannot control the price tour operators may charge.
We hope to welcome back to the Palmetto Resort in the future so you can sample the improvements first hand.

“Paradise has gone down hill since last review.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2009

We returned to the Palmetto but were very disappointed with a number of things:-
Rooms not cleaned on two days and when I complained the manager was most unhelpful and seemed to think this was OK.
The swimming pool had a green line which I and other guestes who had stayed before complained about. We were fobbed off by the manager again who eventually got the odd job man to clean it.
Grounds were not as well kept as in previous years.
Reception staff not as knowlegable and helpful as previous years.
However bar area had improved and front of house staff were all friendly and helpful.
Consequently we are now in search of a new paradise!

“not 4* but a good base”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2007

The tour operator, Anatolian Sky offers this small hotel as 4* but it certainly does not live up to this if you judge it by generally accepted standards. In fairness to the operator they do state their criteria for star ratings in their brochure but I still feel it is misleading. We did not pay 4* price but there is a feeling of disappointment on arrival as the rooms are in need of a makeover and the service does leave a lot to be desired. Rooms are clean and water is plentiful though only hot spasmodically. Breakfasts are good with a choice of fruits, cereals, yoghurt, cheese, olives and eggs. The bar lacked atmosphere and was often closed by 9pm. We did not eat dinner at the hotel as there are so many local good restaurants serving excellent fish etc. Osmans is good and cheap. Our favourite was Sardunya about 10 mins walk around the bay and also Aurora. Sardunya wins for food and Aurora for character.

Having said all the above we would certainly return. The location is excellent, on the edge of the village with views over the bay. As a base to explore the village and its excellent restaurants; it cannot be bettered. The village is a delight and the locals are very friendly. Plenty of walking around the bay or up into the hills and some lovely beaches if you are prepared for a lengthy but interesting walk.

Easy travel by dolmus from the main road to Marmaris (40 mins) or Bozborun(15 mins). You can also stop off at all the places in between. A beautiful and as yet unspoilt area of Turkey if you are looking for a relaxing break.

  • Liked — The views, position and village atmosphere.
  • Disliked — The lack of staff and service and the need for a makeover.

“Not 4 star and not Boutique and Unique”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2007

We visited Palmetto Resort in Selimiye in October 2007 and were very dissapointed with the hotel. We were there for a week and moved room three times!

The hotel only has about 18 rooms and only half of these are on the front of the hotel. The ones on the back of the hotel were very dark and face the local junior school which is very noisy during term time from 8 o'clock in the morning. The back of the hotel was also facing piles of broken garden furniture and general piles of junk.

The first room we were allocated was positioned on the back of the building, was in a poor decorative state and wasn't very clean. There was a very strong smell of drains in the bathroom which made us feel sick.

The second room was better and didn't smell so we were happier. We were then woken up on Monday moring by the school children so had to be moved to the front of the hotel in order to get any sleep in the mornings.

The pool was quite dirty with a band of slime running all around the bottom where it had been used all summer and hadn't been cleaned and the 8 sunbeds were in fairly poor repair and the cushions were very dirty.

The hotel was also supposed to be free of children under 14, but on our last weekend several small children and toddlers arrived and disturbed the peace and quiet we had gone to Turkey for.

Selimiye is a stunningly beautiful place and we had a great holiday apart from our hotel. The Palmetto Resort is a B&B at best so don't expect anything more!
