We stayed at Krabi Heritage in December 2011, both Christmas and New Year. First of all I must say that I was highly disappointed In Ao Nang as a whole. It has perhaps been a nice place, but now it was tourist industry, practically same lists in every restaurant, same prices everywhere, smiles yes when the personnel was expecting to benefit. Smiling people, yes, when you pay for it. Even in the hotel there were people who never smiled, hardly answered when you spoke.
But to the point: Krabi Heritage is an average hotel with good breakfast, plenty of choices from toast to local food. This I was very happy with, though the personnel sometimes had more interest in discussing with each other than serving more coffee.
The pool is small, but definitely suitable for children (and to us also, as we did mainly dip into it, not really swim). There were plenty of clean towels replaced regularly, and with a little luck you could also order drinks from the bar. Public areas were spotless. The guy arranging tours was very helpful and took good care of customers (and he was smiling constantly :) ). The hotel did not charge for safety boxes and the minibar prices were reasonable. Rooms were cleaned daily, towels were changed nearly every day without any indication from our side, and I'm not sure if the card left on the bed had anything to do with clean linen (they were supposed to change the linen if a card was left on the bed). Linen was obviously clean, but had some spots and looked more grey than white.
Some mold in the shower curtain, but otherwise bathroom was clean and spacious, as was the room itself. Air condition worked quite well, but was noisy - there was never a silent moment in the hotel. The corridors are all stone or other hard material, and when someone closed the door, the sound was really loud. It was virtually impossible to close the door silently.
The hotel arranged a party for both Christmas and New Year and it was fun, food was good but I must say that both programs were too long. The lady singing in New Year was really good, but band needs definitely more practice, and though the local dances are nice and beautiful, there was too much of it. Hotel next door had obviously the same problem, lots of program but people were leaving. There were families with small children but no program for them at all. Why not use the pool area, or arrange something for the kids in the hotel?
As mentioned, breakfast was really good and that's why the breakfast box the hotel arranged for the last morning (bus left at 6.35, breakfast started at 6.30) was a disappointment. Three slices of toast, some butter, a banana and fruit juice. And one hard boiled egg. It can't be that hard to make sandwiches, and a cup of coffee would have been welcome.
However, in general I was happy with the hotel, just some minor issues. If I ever return to Ao Nang, I might well stay here.
