“Crummy room, poor service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We were put up at this hotel due to the hotel where we were supposed to stay being booked up due to cancelled flights. On first glance, the hotel looks good with a nice open restaurant area and pool. And maybe there are some nice rooms in the pool area. Our room was on the second floor. It was dingy and grim with no view out the window except roofs. One of the overhead lights didn’t work and the batteries in the TV remote were dead (we got them to fix both). The doorknob on the inside of the bathroom door was missing and the grout on the tile floor was filthy dirty. The ceiling fan had only two speeds, super fast and off. The air conditioner worked, but was slow. No reading lights over the beds. No tea/coffee pot. We ate dinner and breakfast at the restaurant and the service was excruciatingly slow. Food was OK, though, and the dinner portions generous.

“The Best Transit- one night hotel near Colombo Airport”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

We live in UK and every time we come to Srilanka we stay our last night here at FULLMOON because it is so near to the airport , prices are very affordable and service is excellent

That why ,I am surprised at some of the reviews on this site about this hotel. It is nothing like that . The problem is those people want a place so cheap but they expect 5 Star treatment. You cant have it both ways.

Of course this is not the Holiday Inn but we always enjoyed our stay here. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The facilities in the rooms are not brilliant adequate. What's more all the rooms are Air-conditioned. In any of our stays here we never had any problems with bath/shower./ bed sheets or whatever some of the others are complaining about.

All room air-conditioned and the three standard room we hired cost less than £25 each and you wont get that kind of good hotel in UK for similar price. You can have Standard,Deluxe,or Super deluxe,Very large room. Deluxe Family room B/B US$145.for 04 persons when we were there but if you have 5 in the family they would accommodate . You can always negotiate the price over the phone.

Like with many hotels there, they also gave free accommodation to our driver

For Supermarket there is a Cargils (the famous name chain in Srilanka near by .) Also there are three or four good Cafes and restaurants on Colombo Road not far from the hotel if you prefer to go out and eat.

The company charges , for airport pick up Rs 1500/= but you can directly negotiate with a taxi driver for a much lesser charge. However,do not fall for con men who frequent the airport with mini cabs

Last time our extended family of 9 stayed there the smiling bell boys brought our 9 cases upstairs . It was hard work for them of course but they didnt stay round for tips and i had to call them back give a few ££££. . We had a problem with one of the TVs and they fixed it within 10 minutes . .

My children loved the pool but most I like about the place is the food. They had a Spanish Chef whose dishes were excellent. We invited friends over and had dinner for 13 people. They cooked everything in 45 minutes. The table were laid out beautifully and food were served properly. I highly recommend the delicious food there . My children enjoyed playing pool . Bar service was excellent too . Waiters were very attentive to us during the dinner. After the good service they did not hover around us like in many hotels in Srilanka, but we went looking for them to give tips.

When we last stayed there in August 2012 they had a new management and the place was being refurbished . The duty manager and staff were excellent throughout our stay
.

Unfortunately the place had no WIFI when we stayed there and we were not allowed to use the only Office Pc they had in the office to check our E mail. This is something the new owner should look in to. Also they have no UK 3 pin plugs in rooms . The receptionist lent us one adapter but we needed a few more. I recommend you take your own 3 pin adapters until they convert all the sockets to 3 pin ones

As I mentioned before, If you want to pay very little but expect to be served as you are in a 5 star top hotel you would be disappointed. They are the ones who complain out loud. This hotel is excellent value for the money you pay. A pool good food, bar, friendly service and adjacent rooms for families . Thats all you need just before leaving Srilanka or need somewhere to rest just after coming to Srilanka. I highly recommend this hotel to any budget conscious traveller.

Waiters are paid lowly every where in Srilanka and I am sure this hotel is not an exception. and I urge you to be generous in tipping if you are happy with the service .

When leaving the hotel last time the bell boys not only brought our cases to the car the duty manager NISHANTHA came personally to thank us for staying and wish us safe journey to London

I think the hotel have potential to expand and improve their service further . How about putting a kettle and tea bags in the rooms and getting free wifi???

Overall, I would recommend Full Moon to anybody who wants to catch an early flight next day (or who has just arrived and need somewhere to sleep the night ) They can relax and enjoy the last day or first day in Srilanka at this hotel without breaking your bank

I would be back in Srilanka for a week in April and have no hesitation in booking in to this hotel the day before flying out to London

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

I had a standard room. On the opposite side of the pool were rooms that looked nicer, deluxe I believe, and significantly more expensive.
My room was basic and badly in need of renovation. A bath with chipped enamel, no chair.
I turned the tap for the shower and it came off in my hand.
Severely overpriced for the quality of the room. Breakfast only fair.
The public areas on the other hand were pleasant and the pool looked good.

“last minute booking, better than nothing.”

I flew into Colombo around midnight so anything would have been acceptable to my backpacking standards, but if you are spending more than one night in Colombo, I would spend a little extra for a cleaner/nicer place that's in a better location. The rooms weren't very clean and the bedding appeared to be dirty from previous visitors- something that always freaks me out a bit. If they kept it cleaner, it would be a nicer place, the deluxe room had a little kitchen and living room area separate from the bedroom and bathroom. It was a good enough place to shower, get some sleep and have a quick breakfast in the morning before leaving Colombo.
