As stated in other reviews, this place is in the middle of nowhere and if you are approaching from the south (working Stevenage, for example) you have to drive about 5 mioles past it, negociate a roundabout and retrace your steps as there is no direct access from the northbound carriageway.
The decor is tired, my toilet had some rather 'iffy' stains under the water in the bowl and the furniture is worn threadbare in places. However, the bed was comfortable, the shower was efficient (if a little cantackerous in setting it up - first too hot, then too cold, etc) and the TV had a fair selection of various TV and radio channels.
Staff all had a ready smile and were very friendly.
Bottom line ...... there are always rooms available and usually in the £19 - £29 bracket.
The title? Ah, yes. It helps to have a car that can get from 0 - 60 mph in a relatively short period. The reason? The exit onto the A1 (about a mile before it becomes a motorway is a 'T' junction and, between 7:30 and 8am you have to join two lanes of continuous traffic bowling along at about 70 mph. Not for the faint hearted!
