“More Secrets from Secret Transylvania”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

With all my travels, I'm a little late with this review of course but nevertheless...you WILL want to go here!!! I went for a second time to stay with the wonderful people at Secret Transylvania and knowing I have an adventurous side, they planned a wonderful 'surprise' day for us. I won't give the entire surprise away, but the end of the day, when you're thinking it can't possibly get better, they took us here! The Ice Hotel was a very unexpected delight for us, as it was April and we hadn't had snow where we lived for some time. The trip up in the old cable car was definitely a challenge for me (not so fond of heights) but the scenery from above was absolutely breathtaking so I quickly got over my fears. There was a snowstorm on the top of the mountain when we arrived so it was definitely cold and windy but Canadian girls are notoriously tough so we braved our way thru the snow to the restaurant where we had a meatball soup that warmed us from the inside out and allowed us to go further to discover the church and then onto the hotel. I won't give an opinion of the overnite stay in the hotel since that would be a very personal thing...to sleep in a bed made of snow (on a beautiful fur!) Can you handle it?! A massive thanks to Di at Secret Transylvania for finding this little gem for us to visit!

“A charming country”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

My wife and I took the second leg of our honeymoon here in June 2011.
We didn't stay with Jez and Di, but did stay in their apartment in Sibiu.

The apartment was clean and spacious in a charming courtyard in the heart of Sibiu.

We had very little contact with Jez and Di during our stay, but to be honest, that's just how we wanted it. They were available to answer questions on the phone when needed, and we visited their home one day to use the pool. I'm sure if we had required more contact it would have been forthcoming, but, let's face it, on honeymoon, you don't want a full on b and b experience do you?

Transfers from the airport were arranged both ways and were reliable. John (i can't remember his Romanian name, sorry) was a nice chap, and very pleasantly talkative.

Whilst I can't give a review of the all inclusive, I can say that their apartment is marvelously situated, Sibiu is beautiful, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Would love to come again!

“Amazing Hosts!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

Everything about our stay was perfect; the rooms were very nice, the food was amazing, Di & Jez do everything possible to make sure the guest is getting the most out of their stay, their staff is amazing, the greeting team (the dogs) were even amazing! The area is beautiful and there is lots to see, we found the people of Romania to be very warm and welcoming as well. We highly recommend the low level walk (about a 10 mile walk through the hills and tiny villages with Jez). Our experience was wonderful and we will definitely be back. Also, a special thanks to Doris who helped us arrange to renew our wedding vows while we were there!

“Home from Home”

Wow is the only word that I can come up with for our hosts Di, Jez and the team. The accommodation was clean and comfortable with everything we needed. After a rather bumpy journey we quickly felt at home with the warm and friendly welcome we recieved from Di & Jez. Followed by the first of a weeks amazing meals, Di's home cooked meals were amazing and coming from me that is high praise indeed. Nothing was too much!

If you look at 'Secret Transylvania' and think it is too good be true, then you would be right but it is true. It is a holiday with the hassle taken out. To be driven to the sites and really taken care of never seemed to be too much trouble. I would definitely recommend this holiday to all as Di and Jez will fit the trips etc to fulfil your needs.

I and my travel companions could have spent longer seeing the 'real' Transylvania. Beautiful scenery, friendly welcoming locals and cheap shopping and eating. This trip really was all inclusive. So much so that part of me wishes it could stay a secret to be my own secret!

A special thanks to Jez from Dave and Steve for the impromptu battlefield tour (Battle of Sibiu, 1916) on the last day of our holiday, they found it very interesting and the views from where the Romanian trenches were was fantastic, and also the visit to the Romanian and Russian war graves, which was fascinating.

Thanks to Di, Jez and the gang for giving us the most wonderful holiday we could have asked for and for all the little extras.

“Terrific Transylvania!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

Four of us (two couples) have just spent a splendid week at Casa Verde, an experience which certainly exceeded our expectations. The accommodation suited us perfectly (two large rooms, each with ensuite shower, plus a kitchen), just ten minutes walk from the main house. Jez and Di were excellent hosts: to re-iterate previous reviews, the food was delicious and very plentiful! and the flexibility offered in terms of excursions/timing was perfect. We were more than happy to be guided by our hosts as to how to fill our days and were not once disappointed. We did some fabulous (if energetic!) walks terminating in stupendous views of totally unspoiled mountain scenery with swathes of trees; we visited Sibiu and Sighisoara (both quaint and interesting towns); Balea Lac, lovely spot high up in the ski-ing area; went up on a ski lift; visited a local market; saw several historic fortified churches, all interesting and varied. Would certainly recommend a trip to this part of Transylvania for those who like somewhere not yet marred by commercialisation, and offering a variety of rural charm and spectacular scenery. We certainly appreciated being chauffeured by knowledgeable hosts and also the delightful Nelitsu, it took away every ounce of stress! Every good wish to Jez and Di for the future – they have a brilliant formula.
(As a footnote, we found that flying from Heathrow to Sibiu via Vienna (very short stop) worked well and meant only a 20/30 minute drive to Cisnadioara)
