“Beautiful Lochabar”

The Lochabar Beach Lodge is another favorite place based on the three places that I've stayed at on Long Island. The booking here was arranged by Judy Knowles (and her sister Nancy), who knows everyone and is very, very friendly.

The beach for the resort is wonderful as it is in a protected cove where boats come to anchor. If you want a place without any waves and fine white sand, this is it! With supervision, even tiny children can play in the sand here; however, be VERY careful as the depth drops off very quickly after a few yards out into the cove and the water is quite deep.

The resort has a building with a very nice upper and two nice lower dwellings. Each unit has full electrical power and air conditioning, as well as a sitting area where the doors can be opened to let the breezes through. There is a kitchen with microwave, small fridge, etc., and there is a grill outside that can be used. The water is provided by a cistern and it is pretty clean (no funky smells or colors), but, I drank water from a bottle. The linens were very clean and they provided lots of clean towels, etc.

In the lower unit, there was room for two adults and two children.
There was a double bed, a single, and a cot.

Overall, I liked the sleeping accommodations at Lochabar a little better than Chez Pierre; however, it did not quite offset the price differential for me personally. Lochabar cost $125 per night without any meals vs. $99 at Chez Pierre with 2 meals included. However, for some families that are traveling, this might be a be better choice because it has multiple beds, air conditioning, and the water here did not have the strong sulphur smell that is present in the water at Chez Pierre. If I did it again, I might again choose to stay in both places because they both had a lot to offer. Further, if I chose to stay at Lochabar, I would probably take my family to dinner at Chez Pierre for one night of dinner (you need a car to drive there because Lochabar is quite a ways south from Millers).

If you choose to stay at Lochabar, also check out Earlie's Bar in Hamiltons. Judy Knowles doubles as one of the cooks and bartenders here and she is just great! In addition, you'll meet a bunch of other great people and have some very good food and drinks at reasonable prices.
This place is about 8-9 miles away from the Lochabar Beach Lodge. Go there in the afternoon after the fishermen come in...they will provide some entertainment for you!
