“Before the storm”

My 2 sons and I were fortunate to have 3 days in the cottages at the Village before relocating just before Hurricane Katie struck the island- an experience in itself. The cottages are clean and comfortable and well-designed: storybook almost. Jimmy Fox, the manager, took good care of us and saw to our needs. This is a wonderful, remote spot on a beautiful bay, easily accessible to "town": Salt Pond, the "center of the island". My 3rd trip back to Long Island; is there anywhere else???

Room Tip: This is self-sufficient cottage living.

“Perfect Getaway!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 February 2010

We almost hate to tell anyone about this spot for fear of not getting a reservation! It's a perfect getaway! One of the most serene places I've been. The cottages are nicely done, immaculate and perfectly situated for maximum chilling. There is a market nearby and nice little kitchen when you want to eat in. We love that the cottages come with 2 bikes and 2 kayaks! Long Island has beautiful long stretches of beach to walk on (you'll be the only one on them) and likewise we found a nice path near the cottage to walk for miles. There are a couple of nice restaurants within 4 miles of these cottages. The owners are wonderful and so helpful!

“Great place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 April 2009

I read about the Bahamian Village from their website but saw few reviews. When we got there and opened the door to our own perfect cabin, my husband kissed me for finding such a great place. The village so far consists of two cottages and a palapa beach bar that serves anything you want from Thurs-Sun, mostly catering to the yachting folks who anchor in the harbour. Conversation and light music disappeared by 9pm on the nights the Parrots of the Caribbean was open and we had the place to ourselves for the rest of our stay. The staff were welcoming and respected privacy. The beach is not an extensive sandy arc, but swimming was easily accessible within a few feet and kayaks available for exploring. We made use of the mountain bikes to investigate Indian Hole Point and enjoyed the experience. We really like this place and can't wait to return at some point. Long Island people are wonderful. It's worth the effort and money to check it out. Mr. T - the car rental man, is very accommodating and trustworthy - you get good wheels at a decent price and the roads of LI are legendary.

“Nice Alternative Option”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 May 2008

The Bahamian Village consist of two beautiful cabins and a bar & grill along a beautiful bay on the carribean sea. We were looking for a remote location with ample privacy and this certainly met our needs. However, we were also looking for a beautiful beach, which this lacked. If your only objective is to sit by water, this is a nice location, but limited alternative activities without at least 15-20 minute drives. But overall good deal and nice villas.

Pros:
- Cabins are new, nicely furnished, and well ladi out.
- Full kitchen and mini-frig were great addition.
- At most there will be one other group at the location, so nice privacy. However, cabins are very close together.
- Location in the middle of the island was convenient, allowing us access to both north and south parts of long island.

Cons:
- Have to drive to access anything. Bar and grill has very limited menu.
- Lacks real beach! Biggest issue with 'the village.' No where to swim or even walk along. View was nice, but not spectaculor
- Lacks polish/ amenities including propand for grill, ice (small fig couldn't produce much, snorkeling gear (hard to find any to rent on the island).
- Maps/ information about the island. Cheryl, the manager, was very nice and drew us a map, but would have been nice if there was information readily at hand.

Cautions:
- Roads are very, very rough. One main road is in good condition, but roads to attractions unmarked, gravel, and rough.
- Bahamian time. Everyone moves at own pace which is usually between slow and very slow. Also, we schedule 'Brian' (recommended by the hotel) to pick us up for a fishing trip and he didn't show. Very dissappointing.

  • Liked — Remoteness
  • Disliked — Lacks a beach
