I'm usually so lazy I read everyone else's reviews but hardly every bother putting fingers to keyboard myself. However, I was so miffed to read the one less than complimentary review I just felt I had to add my input!
This is a fantastic hotel, everything is excellent: location, staff, roooms, views, food, value for money etc - I could just go on and on. We stayed for four nights last year in the Glenbernie, wondering if this may be too long a stay in a remote location. Absolutely not, if you have a car, you can easily use the Atlantis as a base to explore the whole island - in fact we had to drive to Bridgetown for two of those days to watch my daughter play hockey. We have been to Barbados 7 times now and Bathsheba is my favourite location.
The only thing we thought may be of concern was that the restaurant is closed on Sunday nights. However, the hotel will put a plate of food aside for you or make up some sandwiches. As it happened, we walked down the "main street" found a bar and spent the evening supping passion fruit daquiries and eating pork chops, plantain, rice and peas. Superb!
Please go to the east coast - and not just on a tour of the island. Spend a few days at the Atlantis and really absorb the local flavour. I cannot describe the early morning peace of watching the fishermen swim out to their boats and bring their haul in later in the day. Or watching the women cleaning their catch. Visit the Andromeda Gardens, a gorgous environment, the wildlife reserve, signal station, or just walk along the fantastic beaches collecting seashells as you go. Watch all the daytrippers disappear and have Bathsheba to yourself.
We will certainly be visiting Barbados again and without a single doubt we will be staying at the Atlantis.
