“Kilconquhar "An Excellent Place To Bring In The New Year”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

Stayed from 30 Dec '11 to 5 Jan '12 and had a very enjoyable time. Maw, Paw and two teenagers in a fully furnished, fully equipped two bed villa. Easy walk to all facilities through beautiful gardens ( the storm strewn natural debris actually added to the ambience ! ).

Staff couldn't have been more helpful. The fact that the villa was first class, the fitness and leisure facilities were sufficient for our needs, and the bar service couldn't be faulted, we didn't actually require much ' help ' from them.

Like most others on here I read the negative reviews which put me slightly on guard before I went. Any fears were quickly extinguised by the genuine warmth of the reception on arrival and then by the realisation of the quality of the accommodation.
My experience was quite the contrary to those few moaners.

Well done, and thanks for an excellent start to 2012..
I heartily recommend Kilconquhar Castle to all.

“Hogmanay Break at Kilconquhar”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

Eight of us hired a four-bed villa for a four night stay at New Year. We had a brilliant time. The villa was spacious, very comfortable and equipped to a high standard. We had dinner at the White Cockade on Friday night and in the Lindsay Room in the Castle on Monday. Both meals were very enjoyable and good value. We self-catered on Hogmanay and after dinner joined the revellers in the Marquee to bring in the New Year. However, the DJ was not very good and he totally missed "the Bells" so we left and went back to our Villa to enjoy the warmth of the log fire we had lit before we went out and, of course, a "wee dram". This is our second New Year visit. We have stayed at Kilconquhar on numerous occasions and enjoyed visiting the various attractions in the East Neuk of Fife from Bonfire Night at Elie to the famous Fish and Chips in Anstruther. It's a great place to spend time with family and friends.

Room Tip: If there's enough of you the four bed villa has its own sauna.

“A Fringe Of Gold”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2011

My wife and I spent a week at Kilconquhar from 26 November to 3 December. We were visiting the Country Club on a Timeshare exchange. I believe that the principle business of this resort is holiday ownership, supported by income from holiday rentals. Having read other reviews however, we had mixed feelings about what to expect. I'm pleased to say that the resort does match up to the standards claimed on their website, we found the staff to be very helpful, the resort facilities are exactly as claimed and their restaurant provides a very good standard of meal for realistic prices. I think visitors to this resort ought to look at the Club's own website to ensure they know exactly what they are booking. For example I have read reviews talking down the resorts Club rooms when in fact the resort only state that the rooms are graded 3 star! Our stay was in a three bedroom, three bathroom villa. The villa was equiped to a high standard it had an excellent full sized kitchen a nice dining area and a large comfortable lounge. There was also a nice conservatory, which would be ideal for summer visitors. The master bedroom had a large on-suite that had a built-in sauna. Each of the other bedrooms had a flat screen TV's and DVD players provided in them.
We used the on-site restaurant five times during our stay and we found that there was a very good choice, the meals were to a good standard for the money we were paying. Most nights we stuck to the "House" wines and they were of a reasonable standard. Service in the restaurant was variable as there were a few inexperienced staff who might have benefitted from training. Minor issues with service did not detract from our overall enjoyment. We did not use many of the leisure facilities but we did have a good look around. My judgement is that the facilities were built when the resort first opened and they do reflect a 1970's style but everything is there that you would need to enjoy your stay. The reason we chose to stay at Kilconquhar was based upon the fact that we wanted to walk that particular area of the Fife Coastal Path and we were not disappointed, It's a lovely area. In the resorts history they describe how King James VI of Scotland described Fife as a "beggars mantle with a fringe of gold", the centre of the region at that time being forest, bog and moorland, while the coastal areas had good farmland with small burghs rich from fishing and commerce. It is within this fringe of gold that Kilconquhar lies so I would definately recommend the resort and the area. In the winter it will be quite expensive to heat the villas and electricity is charged at 13p per unit. We had the hot water on for 24 hours a day and we had the heating on in all of the spaces we were using so our charges for the week were £37 which I did not think was bad for the time of year we were visiting. Nice part of Fife and an excellent resort to visit.

just returned from a short stay at kilconquhar castle . having read the reviews prior to going i wondered what i may have let myself in for . i need not have had any concerms . from the moment i arrived to the moment i left , every member of staff i encountered was excellent . nothing was to much trouble for them . i stayed in a room which was bright , fresh and spotlessly clean . tea and coffee making facilities , shampoo and soap were a nice touch . apprrox 15 mins after check in reception called to make sure everything was okay and did i want a reservation for dinner , a nice touch . leisure facilities were very good . scottish night is superb value for money with food , service and entertainment just right . breakfast was well cooked with a varied choice of dishes . i was so impressed i am thinking about going with family at new year and indeed my son is planning on going before christmas . on this experience i would have no hesitation in recommending this establishment .

“A bit disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

Always thought Kilconquhar was a bit top notch, unfortunately it's below par. Stayed for a night b & b and although the room was large, it could do with a makeover. Ensuite is tiny, horrible shower cubicle, with a curtain, not even a glass door. Horrible wooden toilet seat with tarnished hinges, yuk! The room could easily have accomodated a 2-seater sofa, instead it only had 1 chair! The leisure facilities were also disappointing as the pool is only really adequate for kids. Was looking forward to a sauna, but they are in the changing rooms. Surely in this day and age, saunas should be communal?! Bar area was very quiet, but it was November. Table d'Hote menu was restricted to 3 choices for starter, main & dessert so we didn't have the £12.95 dinner. Breakfast however was lovely, made freshly to order and really set us up for the day. Probably wouldn't recommend unless you were at a wedding in their mouldy marquee and wanted to stay over.
