This was my second visit to Bequia and to stay Spring House, and still I can’t speak highly enough of my time there. Despite having been before, the house doesn’t cease to amaze you, from the beautiful bedrooms, to the amazing views. The staff are welcoming and friendly, and are always happy to cater to your needs/requests. The Caribbean food prepared at Spring House by the local cooks, ranging from spicy jerk chicken to fried plantain (to say nothing of the homemade cakes!), is outstanding. Each of the bedrooms are different, but magnificent, and the gardens and swimming pool are always kept in immaculate condition.
Spring House has a bit of something for everybody – be it relaxing in a comfy chair on the veranda with a book, lazing in the pool, or lounging in the poolside gazebo (with its fully stocked fridge/bar). But on top of that there’s also a pool table, table-tennis table and basketball ring, plus a whole range of DVDs and computer games if you want to stay inside to escape the sunshine!
If you can bear to drag yourself away from Spring House, Bequia (and the Grenadines) also has a lot to offer...
The local beaches are stunning – if you want a small, quiet beach then look no further than Princess Margaret beach, or for white sands and waves try Lower Bay (where you can also refresh yourself with a local beer from one of the beach-side bars). At night-time you should try the numerous restaurants and bars in and around Port Elizabeth – we had a fantastic evening at Frangipani, where they serve fresh, grilled swordfish while you sample the famous rum punch, before burning off the calories to the music of the steel drum band! The locals on the island are very friendly, and always want to hear that you’ve been having a great time on their island.
One of the highlights for me was the boat trip to nearby Tobago Cays, of which the clear blue seas and white beaches might be more familiar to you from the Pirates of the Caribbean films. And indeed, you can visit ‘Jack Sparrow’s island’ and sail up to Worlds End reef. From the boat we saw dolphins and flying fish, and when we arrived at the idyllic Cays we snorkelled and swam with sea turtles! And we were well stocked on our trip – the staff at Spring House will happily put together cool-boxes and hampers for your day trips, with sandwiches, fruit, cake and nibbles, soft drinks, water (or in my case, the odd beer or two!).
Thanks again to everybody at Spring House, and I hope to see you again soon!
