Having looked at the hotel website we were thoroughly looking forward to our weekend away at the Lochinvar, from the photos that we saw the hotel looked nice and the prices suggested this also. Unfortunately when we arrived we were taken to a very old fashioned room without a shower in the bathroom. After asking to move rooms we were told that we couldn't but that we could use the communal shower, we were not happy with this as we had booked an en-suite room and booking an en-suite room in 2011 I would really expect a shower to be a basic amenity. We spoke to the management again the next morning, explaining that we were not happy with the room, the curtains in the bathroom would not close properly, a foul smell came out of the bath when the water was going down the plug hole, the carpet was frayed around the edges, behind the furniture hadn't been cleaned and although I could continue this list at length the worst part was the bathroom, it was generally unclean everywhere and as the area around the bath was not tiled there was a thick black line of mould lining the edge of the bath with the wall paper peeling around it.
Although some reviews have said the food was good we did not experience this, the breakfast was very greasy and we had to ask for cutlery and napkins.
After speaking with the owner the most worrying part of this stay was that he thought his rooms were more than suitable for the prices he charges. I wholly disagree with this and having worked in the hospitality industry for many years believe that the current owner of this hotel really needs to assess his ability at running such a place. This hotel is in a beautiful location and with the right ideas about how to run a hotel could do really well. Having since seen rooms at the pub further up the road I know where I would stay if I visited the area again.
