“Hogmanay at Clova Hotel showed Scotland at its best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

Hogmanay at the Glen Clova Hotel was fantastic - it really showed off Scotland at its best.
The setting was beautiful, up the glens of Angus with snow gently falling as we stepped out of the car. There are some tremendous walks - nearby Glen Doll is a great place to appreciate Scottish scenery and our close encounter with some deer in the forest was breathtaking.
We stayed in the hotel, which was boisterous but warm and comfortable with newly refurbished rooms and the hottest and most powerful shower I have encountered in a long while. The bar was busy, but friendly and there was always a quiet corner in which to sip some broth. Very dog-friendly.
Food was excellent. Emphasis on local produce prepared well, with venison and salmon both amazing.
Staff were friendly, relaxed and helpful which made for a great stay, with the ceilidh on Hogmanay topping off what was an immensely enjoyable way to bring in the new year.

Room Tip: Bunkhouse is cheap and cheerful option; lodges are expensive but luxurious with the option of then e...

“A complete break from the rest of the world - bliss”

Had a mid-week stay in one of the Hideaway Lodges and can't recommend this place highly enough.

The accommodation itself was ideal. A very large lodge for two people, it had any amenity you could want. You really only had to bring food to have everything you need. The hot tub and sauna were warm and welcoming in the wintry weather. We got a great price on the trip by choosing an off-peak period, and were even rewarded with a bit of snow.

There are plenty of walking routes and gorgeous scenery as far as the eye can see.

Glen Clova is VERY remote so don't expect to go shopping, etc. We ate a meal in the bar one night and the food was excellent. We stopped off at Kirriemuir on the way back home and this was a gorgeous small town with plenty of places to eat and shop in local/traditional stores.

The staff are efficient but not too chatty, but that suited us just fine. The only concern we had was that there was a power cut on our last night there and no one to the lodge to let us know what was happening or provide candles, etc. The power eventually came back on but even when we checked out the power cut wasn't even mentioned...

Room Tip: All the lodges looked fantastic, the hideaway lodge is a great getaway for two.

Dear EJG1983,

Many thanks for taking the time to post a review on our lodges and we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us. I can only apologise about your last night, however as I’m sure you're aware last Thursdays storms were some of the worst Scotland has seen in 10 years and we were one of the lucky ones to have the electricity back up and running within 4 hours. All of our wooden lodges have their own torches in them as we don't recommend burning candles.

Your comments have been taken on board and we do hope you will book with us again.

“Gorgeous romantic hideaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2011

Just returned from our first short break to Glen Clova Hideaway Lodge, and absolutely loved it. It was our labradors first little holiday and he certainly seemed to enjoy it too!

Everything was very clean and new looking, especially the sauna/bathroom area. The hot tub and surrounding area was all very clean and welcoming also, wish I was still there! I would say the photos on the site dont actually do it justice.

They have all the basics you need, such as tea/coffee/sugar, along with things like tin foil and bottle opener.

No wifi or phone signal but I think that adds to the experience, I don't actually want to turn my phone on now!

We will certainly be returning.

“Another fantastic stay at this excellent location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2011

Just back from another week up at the wonderful Glen Clova luxury lodges.

Spent a lot more time eating in the restaurant this time around and the food is fab. All home cooked and served in generous portions by wonderfully friendly staff.

Welcomed as always by June and from the outset made to feel at home. Our black lab now wanders down to June's house to have a hello with her lab Charlie. It just confirms the friendly family atmosphere that is ever present.

Now on our 4th trip (5th already booked for next year) we just can't get enough of the place. Had a good chance to get to know Leslie this time around and spent our last evening having dinner in the climbers bar beside the log fire chatting.......bliss.

Glen Clova Hotel deserves all the plaudits it receives and will remain a yearly destination for us I would imagine for the rest of our lives.

** There is no WIFI or mobile signal in the lodges (if a must it can be obtained in the hotel) which is fantastic as the whole point of this place is the peace, quiet & serentity**

“Perfect Hideaway Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

My boyfriend and I have just returned from a weeks stay in one of the Hideaway lodges at this hotel. Having stayed in similar lodges before we thought we knew what to expect when booking our stay here, but when we entered the lodge we were completely overwhelmed by the standard they have to offer. It was immaculate.
The hot tub and sauna gave us a perfect taste of luxury, whilst the flat screen TV and blu-ray player were a nice touch which made us feel at home straight away. Other basic essentials were also provided for, such as dishwasher/laundry tablets, cleaning equipment and tea towels, something which we hadn't had in previous lodges. The bed was very comfortable, giving us good nights sleep throughout our stay.
The setting is amazing, tucked away in the middle of the mountains, something which we had a perfect view of from our lodge and hot tub. We didn't feel overlooked at all from the rest of the lodges. Just outside our lodge was a footpath leading straight up the mountain to Loch Brandy, the views from there are breathtaking and well worth the walk up.
We decided to do our own cooking during our stay, the kitchen was fully kitted out for this, but on the last night we had a meal in the hotel, which was lovely. The staff were very accommodating and the prices were reasonable.
The purpose of our stay was to get away from working life and relax. This place more than fulfilled this for us. Being cut off from mobile phone reception and with the nearest town being about 15 miles away really did make us feel away from it all. And the views were second to none. We definitely will be returning here in the near future and would highly recommend the Hideaway lodge experience to couples.
