South Wales needs good dining establishments, and it pains me to give a poor review here. But the 6 course degustation menu we had was poor. First, its a bit much for the amuse guele to constitute the first course, and for the cheeseboard to be an add on course with a supplement. Secondly, the meal was very patchy. The tomato salad was the pick, due to its flavours and simplicity. Other courses were a mish mash which sometimes didn't work. Thirdly, and by far the worst point of the evening, was the wine. Given that the menu is a "surprise" ( i e you don't know what you are having in advance), we left it to the sommelier to choose the wines which were described as having been selected to enhance the courses. Don't believe it! What we had were the wines that are served by the glass, and they were poor, and positively detracted from the meal. If there is a next time, I will order a la carte, and select my own wines from the excellent wine list. The accomodation was comfortable, and breakfast was excellent. Perhaps our meal was a disappointment as it was a monday evening??
